BenQ’s March 5, 2025 EW-series refresh includes three entertainment monitors: the 32-inch EW3290U, 27-inch EW2790U and 27-inch EW2790Q. The EW3290U and EW2790U use 4K/UHD resolution at 60Hz, while the EW2790Q uses QHD resolution at 100Hz. That makes the choice primarily a trade-off between image detail, screen size and smoother motion.
The three new BenQ EW monitors at a glance
| Model | Screen class | Resolution and refresh rate | Launch price in the U.S. (March 2025) | Predecessor named by BenQ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EW3290U | 32-inch | UHD/4K, 60Hz | $449.99 | EW2720U and EW3280U |
| EW2790U | 27-inch | UHD/4K, 60Hz | $299.99 | EW2880U |
| EW2790Q | 27-inch | QHD, 100Hz | $259.99 | EW2780Q |
The prices above are BenQ’s launch retail prices, not current prices. Availability and present-day street pricing can change.
What the EW3290U offers
The EW3290U is the largest model and combines a 32-inch panel with UHD/4K resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. BenQ lists 98% P3 coverage, a built-in remote control and 2.1-channel treVolo speakers with a woofer as vendor-stated specifications.
It is the most suitable of the three for people who want a large, detailed screen for films, console play, creative work or a shared desk setup. Its 60Hz refresh rate is the same as the EW2790U, so it prioritizes 4K detail and physical size rather than higher motion frequency.

What the EW2790U offers
The EW2790U places UHD/4K resolution on a 27-inch screen and runs at 60Hz. BenQ specifies 95% P3 coverage and a pair of 5W built-in treVolo speakers.
Compared with the EW3290U, it is the more compact and less expensive 4K option at launch. It fits readers who want high pixel density for text, photos and 4K video without moving to a 32-inch display.
What the EW2790Q offers
The EW2790Q is the non-4K alternative: a 27-inch QHD monitor with a 100Hz refresh rate. BenQ lists 99% sRGB coverage and a pair of 5W speakers.

That may make everyday scrolling and compatible games feel smoother, but the EW2790Q is still presented as an entertainment monitor rather than a dedicated high-refresh gaming display.

- treVolo built-in speakers
- 65W USB-C connectivity for compatible devices

These are manufacturer claims and specifications. The announcement does not establish independent HDR performance, measured color accuracy, input latency or speaker quality.
4K at 60Hz versus QHD at 100Hz
Choose 4K when detail is the priority
UHD/4K provides more pixels than QHD, which can produce a sharper workspace for fine text, detailed photographs and 4K video when the computer or source device can output that resolution. The EW3290U adds a larger 32-inch canvas, while the EW2790U keeps the footprint smaller.

The EW2790Q’s 100Hz refresh rate is higher than 60Hz. The difference is most relevant to scrolling, animated interfaces and games that can deliver more than 60 frames per second. It does not by itself establish gaming-focused response times or other features associated with specialist gaming monitors.

Remember the hardware and viewing distance
Driving 4K generally demands more graphics performance than driving QHD at comparable settings. A 27-inch 4K screen also packs pixels more densely than a 32-inch 4K screen, while QHD at 27 inches can be easier for a less powerful system to run at higher frame rates.

Eye-care and HDR claims: what is established
BenQ includes Brightness Intelligence Technology Gen2 and describes eye-care technology as part of the series’ user-friendly design. Those features may adjust or manage display behavior, but the launch information does not prove that they prevent eye strain or reduce symptoms for every user.
Similarly, HDRi Gen2 Dynamic Contrast Adjustment is a listed feature, not an independent measurement of HDR brightness, contrast or real-world HDR image quality. Readers who require dependable HDR or color accuracy should look for independent instrumented testing of the specific model.

Bottom line
The EW3290U is the large-screen 4K choice, the EW2790U is the compact 4K choice, and the EW2790Q trades 4K resolution for a 100Hz refresh rate. Select between them according to whether your priority is screen size, pixel detail or smoother motion; treat the launch prices and all performance figures as time- and source-specific rather than current independent benchmarks.
