The BenQ PD3225U is a 31.5-inch 4K, 60Hz monitor best suited to creative and productivity work where a large, color-focused workspace and Thunderbolt one-cable setup matter more than high refresh rates or maximum brightness. Its Mac-oriented controls, KVM features, and Hotkey Puck give it a distinctive workflow case, but its premium positioning makes it a less obvious choice if you do not need those extras.
What the BenQ PD3225U offers
BenQ specifies a 31.5-inch panel with a 3840 × 2160 resolution, commonly described as a 32-inch 4K display. It is aimed at creators and desk workers who want room for detailed work, multiple windows, and color-conscious applications. The stand supports height adjustment, tilt, swivel, and pivot, so you can adapt the screen to your desk and preferred orientation. BenQ’s specification page lists the panel and ergonomic features.
The monitor runs at 60Hz. RTINGS identifies the PD3225U as a Thunderbolt 3 model with up to 85W power delivery, so it can connect to and charge a compatible laptop over one cable. That setup is useful for a clean desk and everyday creative work, but 60Hz is a meaningful limitation if smooth motion or fast gaming is a priority. RTINGS’ review identifies its test unit as manufactured in October 2024 with firmware V025; those test results should not be treated as measurements of every unit.
Color performance: strong credentials, with a calibration caveat
BenQ lists a factory calibration report, average Delta E ≤2, Calman Verified, Pantone Validated, and Pantone SkinTone Validated. These are manufacturer-stated credentials, not independent proof that every screen will match a particular workflow or remain perfectly accurate over time. Buyers with color-critical work should distinguish the specifications from measurements of a particular unit. BenQ’s listed calibration credentials describe the product’s stated validation.

In its testing, RTINGS found good color accuracy before calibration but a very cold color temperature; after calibration, it reported extremely accurate color. In practical terms, the PD3225U appears capable of excellent accuracy, but its default white balance may not suit every user. If precise color is central to your work, plan to assess the individual display and calibrate it as needed rather than assuming the factory credentials guarantee ideal out-of-box results. RTINGS’ testing notes provide the before-and-after distinction.
Ports and one-cable workflow
The connection selection is designed to serve a desk with more than one computer or peripheral. BenQ lists two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4, a Thunderbolt 3 input with 85W power delivery, a Thunderbolt output with 15W power delivery, downstream USB-C, USB-B upstream, and three USB 3.2 downstream ports. The display can act as a hub, while the Thunderbolt connection carries image, data, and charging for a compatible host. See BenQ’s full port specifications before matching it to a particular computer or accessory.

BenQ says the supplied Thunderbolt 4 cable is backward compatible with the monitor’s Thunderbolt 3 connection. Package contents can vary by region, so check the listing for your market rather than assuming a particular cable is included. If you need a replacement or longer lead, confirm its certification, length, and support for the functions you require. BenQ’s US product page describes the one-cable workflow and cable compatibility.

The Hotkey Puck provides physical controls for switching settings and display modes without relying solely on on-screen buttons. A built-in KVM workflow can also help people share a keyboard and mouse between connected computers. These features are especially relevant if your desk alternates between a Mac and another computer; they are less valuable if you use only one host and rarely change settings. BenQ also promotes creator-oriented software and controls for Mac users. BenQ’s product page outlines its software and workflow features.

Is the BenQ PD3225U good for Mac?
It can be a good Mac desk monitor for users who value a large 4K canvas, Thunderbolt connectivity, charging, and BenQ’s Mac-oriented control workflow. The single-cable arrangement is convenient when a compatible Mac can send video and use the display’s hub over Thunderbolt. The key qualification is multi-display support: BenQ documents daisy-chaining up to two 4K displays, but its US guidance says M1 and M2 Apple Silicon systems do not support this multi-monitor use. BenQ names Pro, Max, and Ultra chips as supporting it. Check the specific Mac chip and your intended display arrangement before buying. BenQ’s daisy-chain guidance describes the compatibility caveat.
BenQ describes Thunderbolt daisy chaining as a way to extend a workspace to dual 4K displays. That does not mean every Mac can drive that configuration: support depends on the computer, and the M1/M2 limitation above applies to BenQ’s stated use case. Verify the exact computer and connection path, particularly if you are building a two-display setup.

BenQ PD3225U vs. Dell U3225QE
The choice depends on which monitor strengths matter more to your work. RTINGS identifies the Dell U3225QE as a competitor with a higher 120Hz refresh rate, greater brightness, more power delivery, and Thunderbolt 4. The BenQ’s counterpoints include its Hotkey Puck and editor software strengths. The published comparison does not establish a universal winner: prioritize the features that solve a real need in your setup.

Who should consider the PD3225U?
- Designers, photographers, and editors: Consider it if a large 4K work area, color modes, calibration potential, and a USB/Thunderbolt hub fit your workflow.
- Mac users: Its Thunderbolt and Mac-oriented controls can make for a convenient desk setup, but verify your Mac’s chip if you plan to daisy-chain displays.
- Multi-computer desk users: The KVM and Hotkey Puck may simplify switching between hosts and settings.
- Motion-sensitive users and gamers: Look elsewhere if you want refresh rates above 60Hz; the Dell U3225QE is one comparison point at 120Hz.
- Brightness- or connectivity-first buyers: Compare alternatives if greater brightness, Thunderbolt 4, or more laptop power delivery are higher priorities than BenQ’s control workflow.
Verdict
The BenQ PD3225U is a capable premium 4K workspace monitor whose appeal rests on more than its panel: Thunderbolt, KVM, the Hotkey Puck, adjustable ergonomics, and Mac-oriented workflow features make it a considered choice for creative desks. Its 60Hz refresh rate and the need to check Mac daisy-chain compatibility narrow the fit. It is most compelling when those workflow benefits are useful enough to justify choosing it over brighter, faster, or newer-connectivity alternatives.
