A Bengaluru commuter identified as Sumanth says he left work in Whitefield at about 7 p.m. and reached home at 10:40 p.m. He also said he saw no traffic police at important junctions. Hindustan Times reported his account on October 1, 2026, while noting that it had not independently verified the claims.
What the commuter said happened
In a post on X, Sumanth described a journey home after leaving his Whitefield workplace at around 7 p.m. and arriving at 10:40 p.m. He said he tried to follow lane discipline and that it was the first day he had not become angry at two-wheeler and auto drivers jumping lanes and weaving through traffic.
He also wrote: “I did not see a single traffic police officer at important junctions again. I think they have abandoned city commuters and left us to manage things ourselves.” That is Sumanth’s observation and opinion; it does not establish police staffing or enforcement across Bengaluru.
What is verified—and what is not
Hindustan Times identified the post’s author as X user Sumanth and published the account in a report by Vaishali Kapila on October 1, 2026. The publication explicitly stated that the report was based on user-generated social-media content, that it had not independently verified the claims, and that it did not endorse them. The reported journey time, traffic experience and observation about police should therefore be treated as one commuter’s account, not confirmed findings or citywide traffic data.

The report does not establish his exact destination, route, distance, journey date, traffic conditions, or whether officers were present elsewhere or at other times. It also gives no official statement or expert assessment explaining the delay.
How commenters responded
One commenter asked how much time Sumanth might have saved by not following lane discipline. Another said that travelling from a Whitefield office using two metro lines took them no more than 45 minutes, with five minutes of last-mile connectivity. Both are individual comments relayed by HT—not independently verified estimates, and not a like-for-like comparison with Sumanth’s journey.

Other comments raised views about police leaving when it rains, lane-splitting and blind-spot risks, impatience, and vehicles blocking traffic. These are reactions, not representative evidence about public opinion or established causes of Sumanth’s delay.
Why the metro comparison is not a travel-time benchmark
The reported two-metro trip offers a different commuter’s experience, but the article does not establish matching origins and destinations, departure time, date, route, or a consistent door-to-door measure. Without those details, it cannot show how much faster the metro would have been for Sumanth or support a general estimate for Whitefield commuters.

This account is also separate from a May 2026 Deccan Herald report about Varun Rangarajan’s journey on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road. That report concerned a different post and a different trip; it does not corroborate Sumanth’s route or experience.
