Ben Simmons is making a positive early impression with the Sacramento Kings in training camp, drawing praise from coach Doug Christie and putting in extra work with the coaching staff. That is a promising camp report—not evidence of regular-season production: the available reporting does not include a 2026–27 game performance.
What Simmons has done in Kings training camp
In an Oct. 1, 2026 update, the Kings reported that Christie had praised Simmons and that the guard-forward had been doing extra work with Sacramento coaches, citing Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 Sacramento. Christie said: “Nothing I read was true. I really enjoy being around the kid. He speaks. He enjoys basketball. He loves coaching, and he’s special.” The comment reflects Christie’s view of Simmons as a person and his approach to camp; it does not establish what role or minutes Simmons will receive.
Is Ben Simmons playing for the Kings this season?
Simmons agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal with Sacramento on Sept. 8, 2026, according to NBA.com’s signing report. He sat out the entire 2025–26 season before joining the Kings. Sacramento’s official roster lists him as a 6-foot-10 guard-forward wearing No. 25, but a roster listing and a positive camp report do not confirm game availability or a place in the rotation.
When Simmons last played and what his numbers show
Simmons’ most recent NBA season was 2024–25, split between Brooklyn and the LA Clippers. NBA.com reported that he played 51 games and averaged 5.0 points, 5.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 22.0 minutes per game. Those are his figures from that season, not a projection for Sacramento or evidence of his current form.

Why his Kings role remains an open question
Sacramento is integrating young additions alongside returning players, and Simmons’ fit is one of the team’s notable questions, according to the NBA.com 2026–27 Kings preview. The preview records the Kings’ 2025–26 finish as 22–60, 14th in the Western Conference, and describes the team as seeking a fresh start. It raises the question of whether Simmons can return to earlier success but does not settle his role.

- Availability: Whether he appears in games and how consistently.
- Minutes and role: Whether Sacramento uses him in its regular rotation and in which lineups.
- Playmaking and rebounding: Whether those parts of his game translate into on-court contributions.
- Scoring: Whether his offense adds to the team’s needs.
Extra work and coach praise are encouraging signs about his start in Sacramento, but they cannot answer those game-based questions on their own.
