Ben Affleck has confirmed that he used AI “for lots of things” while making Animals, his upcoming Netflix crime thriller. He has not said which tools or tasks were involved. At Bloomberg Screentime, he explained that he was hesitant to identify them because revealing the methods could undermine the film’s “illusion of reality.” Reports say AI helped the production move faster in some cases, mostly in post-production, but do not specify what it did.
What Affleck confirmed about AI on Animals
Speaking with Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw at Bloomberg Screentime, Affleck said: “I used [AI] for lots of things in that movie. I’m a little bit hesitant to point out what they are — or even talk about it — because in my business, we’re trying to foster the illusion of reality, right?” ComingSoon reported his remarks. Affleck compared explaining the methods to a magician revealing a trick before performing it.

In a separate account of the interview, Rolling Stone reported that Affleck said the technology allowed the production “to move in some cases more quickly, really mostly in post-production, to do things that otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to do.” He did not give a time or cost saving.
What AI did—and what remains unknown
The reports establish broad AI use, but not a specific workflow. They do not name an AI system, vendor, model, prompt, production department, shot, edit, or other task. They also do not establish that AI generated performances, scenes, or finished images, or that it replaced particular workers. “Lots of things” should not be read as proof that AI generated the movie.

Affleck founded the filmmaking AI company InterPositive, which Reuters says he sold to Netflix earlier in 2026. Rolling Stone reported the March 2026 sale at $587 million. Neither the sale nor the company’s connection to Netflix establishes that InterPositive products were used on Animals. Reuters’ account of the sale does not identify the film’s AI tools.

Animals is described as a crime thriller co-written, directed by, and starring Affleck. Reuters reported it as an upcoming Netflix film. Rolling Stone reported an October 9, 2026 Netflix release date; as of October 3, 2026, that date is still in the future, so it is a scheduled date rather than confirmation that the film is already available.
There are no named tools or workflows to compare in the published accounts. The confirmed story is narrower: Affleck says AI was used on the production and helped in some cases, especially in post-production, while the particulars remain undisclosed.
