Bell Pure Fibre ranked first in Ookla’s reported Canadian fixed-network speed results for Q1–Q2 2024, with a Speed Score of 353.71. That is a result for the award period—not a current ranking or a guarantee of the speed any one Bell customer will see at home. MobileSyrup reported the scores.
What did Ookla’s Q1–Q2 2024 results show?
In the national comparison reported by MobileSyrup, Bell Pure Fibre took first place. The report also gives Bell a Wi-Fi Speed Score of 319.25. The ranking describes measured results during the first half of 2024; it does not establish which provider is fastest today or at every address.
| Reported national ranking | Provider |
|---|---|
| 1 | Bell Pure Fibre |
| 2 | TELUS |
| 3 | Rogers |
| 4 | Cogeco |
| 5 | Videotron |
MobileSyrup also reported Bell in first place in the city comparisons for Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. Those city results apply to the reported comparisons, not automatically to every neighbourhood or community.
What does Ookla’s Speed Score mean?
MobileSyrup describes Ookla’s Speed Score as a modified trimean using the 90th-, 50th-, and 10th-percentile download and upload speeds. It gives more weight to download speeds and the median. In other words, the score combines multiple points in the measured speed distribution rather than simply reporting the fastest individual test.

How many tests went into the comparison?
BCE’s Q2 2024 release says Ookla analyzed 21,155,301 user-initiated tests for nationally aggregated fixed-network and Wi-Fi Speed Scores spanning Q1–Q2 2023 and Q1–Q2 2024. The fixed-network tests included mobile phones connected over Wi-Fi. The count represents a large set of tests, but BCE does not say that every Canadian household participated.
Does this mean Bell is the fastest internet provider now?
No. The result is specific to Q1–Q2 2024. Bell later announced a separate Ookla award for Q3–Q4 2024, as its February 2025 announcement describes. Neither award should be treated as a live ranking of providers or as a substitute for checking what service is available at a particular address.
Rank #2
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
The award compares provider-level speed results. It does not provide a current, address-by-address comparison of plan availability, prices, speed tiers, equipment, or service terms. Those details need to be checked separately when choosing a plan.

Bell says the speed stated in an Internet plan refers to the connection delivered to the modem. A speed test on a device can be lower because of factors between the modem and that device, including wireless conditions and device capability.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
- Wi-Fi distance or interference: A device farther from the modem, or affected by interference, may receive a slower wireless connection.
- Device limitations: The phone, computer, or its network hardware may not be able to use the full connection speed.
- Shared bandwidth: Other devices using the connection can affect the speed available to one device at that moment.
These are possible causes, not proof that a particular speed result has one specific explanation. Bell’s support page explains the distinction between modem-delivered plan speed and the speed shown on a device: Why is my speed test result lower than the speed in my Internet plan?

Bell recommends reducing other variables that can affect a device-based test. For the clearest indication of the connection reaching your equipment, use Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi when possible.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
- Close background applications that may be using the Internet.
- Disconnect other devices from the connection and turn off any VPN.
- Run the test close to the modem to reduce the effect of Wi-Fi distance.
- For the most accurate result, connect the test device to the modem with a wired Ethernet connection.
- For everyday Wi-Fi coverage, place the modem in a central, open location.
These are Bell’s troubleshooting recommendations, not a separate test of Bell’s service. A wired result helps remove Wi-Fi as a measurement variable; it does not increase the speed supplied by the plan.
