Beko Australia is reported to be closing in the first quarter of 2027, but no replacement distributor for Hitachi home appliances in Australia has been identified. The announcement is separate from Hitachi’s proposed global transaction involving its overseas appliance business: that plan says Hitachi-branded appliances will continue globally, but it does not say who will sell or service them in Australia.
What is happening to Beko Australia?
ChannelNews reported on 2 October 2026 that Beko Australia plans to close in the first quarter of 2027 after a comprehensive operational review. The report describes competitive pressure as a factor. This is a reported announcement; the Beko pages found for this article did not carry a separate closure notice.
ChannelNews also reported that Beko’s Australian and New Zealand operations had combined turnover of $17 million. The report did not specify the period covered or provide a primary filing for the figure, so it should not be read as verified annual revenue or as Australian-only turnover.
What does Beko’s exit mean for Hitachi appliances in Australia?
According to ChannelNews, Beko has distributed Hitachi-branded home appliances in Australia since September 2023. Hitachi Australia’s support page also identifies Beko A&NZ as the distributor, although the page listing available for this article had been crawled several months earlier. ChannelNews named Bing Lee and Harvey Norman as retailers carrying the range.

The exit leaves the local distribution question unanswered. No replacement Australian distributor or effective handover date was identified, and the available information does not establish whether Bing Lee or Harvey Norman will continue to carry Hitachi appliances after Beko closes.
Is Hitachi leaving Australia too?
There is no evidence in the cited announcements that Hitachi is withdrawing its appliance brand from Australia. Hitachi’s 21 April 2026 announcement instead describes a proposed change to ownership of an overseas appliance joint venture. It says the future business is intended to continue providing Hitachi-branded home appliances from manufacturing through after-sales service. That is a global business statement, not a commitment about Australian distribution or local servicing.

Beko’s corporate identity announcement separately says its global rebranding does not apply to Arçelik Hitachi. That distinction is evidence that the rebrand itself does not retire the Hitachi appliance brand; it does not resolve what will happen to the brand’s Australian distributor.

What is changing in Hitachi’s overseas appliance business?
In its 21 April 2026 announcement, Hitachi said its subsidiary Hitachi Global Life Solutions (Hitachi GLS) and Arçelik had agreed to a share purchase concerning Arçelik’s 60% stake in AHHA. The business was established by Arçelik and Hitachi GLS in 2021. Under the announced plan, the contractual position would pass to a new company formed as part of the Hitachi/Nojima home-appliance restructuring.

Completion remained conditional on regulatory clearances and approvals. Hitachi expected transfers during the fiscal year ending 31 March 2027; the announcement did not say that completion had already occurred. Hitachi Senior Vice President and Executive Officer Noriharu Amiya said: “To ensure sustainable growth of the home appliance business, we have decided to establish a new company under Nojima.”
Hitachi’s stated intention to continue the global Hitachi-branded appliance business does not specify the Australian sales, distribution or after-sales-service operator. It should not be treated as proof that Hitachi has taken over Beko’s local role.

Will Hitachi warranties still be honoured, and who will provide support?
ChannelNews reported that Beko said it had arranged ongoing after-sales customer service and would honour warranties under Australian Consumer Law and Beko’s warranty terms. That is the reported assurance; the detailed service route after closure, including who will handle a later claim, was not set out.

Hitachi Australia’s support page lists Beko A&NZ Pty Ltd as distributor and gives customer care at 1300 470 552, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm AEDST. Because the listing available for this article was several months old, check the current official Hitachi Australia support page before relying on the number or hours. Beko’s warranty page describes existing warranty and registration options, but its continued availability does not establish that the same support structure will operate after the planned closure.

What Australian buyers should check
- For an existing appliance: keep the proof of purchase, model and serial number, and warranty documents. Check the current official Hitachi Australia support page for the applicable contact route before requesting service.
- For a purchase before the reported closure: ask the retailer which entity will handle warranty claims and repairs, and retain the answer with the receipt. The post-closure service transition has not been detailed.
