If you’re choosing your first FPV drone for racing-style flying, start with a complete beginner kit that lets you progress toward Acro/manual control—not a promise of top speed. The evidence supports comparing four options, but not naming five proven racing drones: two are learning whoops, one has beginner-review coverage, and one is a camera-oriented FPV drone. None has been established here as a tested competitive racer.
What makes a good first racing-style FPV drone?
FPV, or first-person view, means you pilot using a live camera feed shown in goggles or on a display. For learning to fly in a racing style, the key question is whether you can move from assisted control toward Acro/manual flight, where the pilot has more direct control and must manage the drone’s orientation.
Compare the whole learning package, not just a speed claim: included goggles and transmitter, flight modes, simulator support, battery life as stated by the maker, compatible replacement parts, and whether you can buy spares. A small beginner whoop can be a useful place to learn, but it is not interchangeable with a purpose-built competitive racing quad.

This is a needs-based comparison, not a performance ranking. The available evidence does not establish five distinct, purpose-built racing drones or include comparative flight testing. The first two options are learning whoop kits; the last is better understood as a camera-oriented FPV alternative.

| BETAFPV Cetus FPV Kit | A complete, small-scale starting point | BETAFPV lists a brushed quad, N/S/M flight modes, goggles, transmitter, batteries, charger, spare propellers, and tools. The manufacturer lists a takeoff weight of 35 g and 4–5 minutes of flight time. | The 4–5-minute figure is a manufacturer specification, not an independent test. BETAFPV lists an 80 m flight distance only for a wide, undisturbed environment. Check the current package contents and replacement-part availability. |
| BETAFPV Cetus Pro FPV Kit | A brushless learning kit with a step-up path | BETAFPV lists N/S/M modes, turtle mode, goggles and radio, and transmitter use as a USB joystick with named FPV simulators, including Liftoff. Its stated weight is 33.19 g without the battery; the manufacturer lists 4–5 minutes of flight time. | BETAFPV’s 80 m distance is stated for a wide, undisturbed environment. The product page showed the kit as sold out when accessed on October 7, 2026; availability can change. |
| BETAFPV Cetus X | A beginner kit with independent review coverage | TechRadar describes a complete kit with flight modes and a route toward Acro practice. | In its review, TechRadar reported that Acro took practice, the video feed broke up, battery life was short, and the frame cracked during its tests. Those are that reviewer’s observations, not results from a comparison across these options. |
| DJI Avata 2 | Guided FPV flying and footage, rather than a dedicated racing setup | DJI lists beginner mode and Easy ACRO, and describes manual mode with supported controller hardware. | It requires a compatible DJI goggle/controller combination. Its documented positioning is centered on immersive flight and video; it is not established here as a purpose-built racing quad. |
How to choose between the options
For the simplest complete kit
The Cetus is the clearest fit if you want the listed goggles, transmitter, batteries, charger, and basic spares in one package. Its brushed power system and three modes place it in the learning-whoop category, not the competitive-racing category. Treat the listed flight time as a maker claim, and confirm that the kit still includes the components you need before buying.
For a brushless learning step-up
The Cetus Pro adds a brushless system and turtle mode, plus a transmitter BETAFPV says can act as a simulator joystick. That simulator option can let a beginner practice control inputs before flying a real drone. The product page’s sold-out status on October 7, 2026 is a snapshot, not a guarantee of present availability.

For a kit with independent beginner-review observations
The Cetus X has coverage from TechRadar, which describes Acro progression but also reports specific drawbacks from its tests: video breakup, short battery life, and a cracked frame. These reported findings are useful context, but they are not a standardized comparison with the other kits.

For guided flight and camera use
Consider the Avata 2 if beginner assistance and video-oriented FPV are more important to you than selecting a dedicated racing quad. Before choosing it, check DJI’s current compatibility information for the exact goggles and controller combination you plan to use; supported equipment matters for its modes.
Rank #3
- 【Cetus Pro FPV Kit】BETAFPV Cetus Pro FPV Kit is a brushless whoop drone designed from the ground up for FPV beginners. Auxiliary flight function is available for novices, greatly reducing the threshold of operating. Cetus Pro brushless quadcopter is robust and powerful, allowing you to fly faster, race, and even do freestyle flying. Taking you from ZERO to Super Pilot in one kit
- 【N/S/M 3 Flight Modes】Normal/ Sport/ Manual are available, which can satisfy the different needs of pilots and adapt to various flight environments. Meanwhile, these 3 modes all support 3 different speeds in SLOW/MID/FAST. Pilot can choose the mode that suitable with you
- 【Altitude Hold Function】Altitude hold function enables Cetus Pro brushless quadcopter to Auto-Hover. The quadcopter can stay at a current height when pilots' hands are off the transmitter. The barometer/laser achieves accurate and stable positioning, which makes the quad hovering indoors very stable. Please note the altitude hold function is only available in N mode
- 【Self-protection Function】The Cetus quadcopter has an excellent self-protection function. Which can make an emergency landing when it loses control or in low battery. It will also automatically disarm and drop on ground once it has a strong collision with the object. No more worry about loss and crash
- 【Turtle Mode】Cetus Pro brushless quadcopter comes with turtle mode which is the world's leading technology. When Cetus Pro brushless quadcopter falls to the ground upside-down, simply activate turtle mode with your transmitter to turn it over. No walking through the fields for this
What to check before placing an order
- Kit contents: Confirm that the package includes the goggles, transmitter, batteries, charger, and any tools or spare propellers you expect. Contents and availability can change.
- Manual-control progression: Look for the modes the maker names and understand what each permits. Assisted modes can ease early practice, but they do not make the drone equivalent to a racing quad.
- Simulator compatibility: If you plan to practice on a computer, confirm the transmitter connection and simulator support for the specific kit. BETAFPV describes USB joystick use for the Cetus Pro transmitter.
- Replacement parts: Check that compatible batteries, propellers, and frame parts are available for the exact model. Do not assume parts fit across models.
- Battery expectations: The Cetus and Cetus Pro pages list 4–5 minutes of flight time. These are manufacturer specifications, not a promise of what every pilot will get in use.
- Radio and goggle compatibility: A kit may include its own equipment, while a camera-oriented option may require a particular compatible combination. Verify the precise hardware before buying.
- Room to fly legally: Check the rules and practical flying locations where you live before choosing a drone or taking off.
U.S. rules and safe first flights
In the United States, the FAA’s recreational guidance includes flying for recreational purposes, following a community-based organization’s safety guidelines, keeping the drone within visual line of sight, yielding to manned aircraft, obtaining controlled-airspace authorization where required, and registering when applicable. The FAA also describes Part 107 as a separate operating path that requires a Remote Pilot Certificate. Check the FAA’s current recreational guidance and the rules that apply to your operation before flying.
FPV goggles do not remove the visual-line-of-sight requirement. Under the FAA’s Part 107 guidance, an FPV pilot must have a visual observer who keeps the drone within unaided sight. The FAA’s Part 107 summary also says to avoid manned aircraft and not to fly over people unless they participate in the operation. These are U.S. rules; pilots elsewhere should check their own aviation regulator’s requirements.
