There is no safe, universal procedure for taking apart an MSI gaming monitor: screws, clips, cables and opening direction depend on the exact model. Read the model number on the rear label, open that model’s MSI support page, and check its manual or service guide before removing anything. The detailed MSI disassembly instructions available here cover the PRO MP275QPG V4 family—not unspecified Optix, MAG, MPG or other gaming monitors.

If you only need to remove the stand or attach a VESA mount, follow the exact model’s mounting instructions and do not open the enclosure. Internal repair is a different, higher-risk job; check your regional warranty terms and MSI service options first.

Identify your MSI monitor before choosing a procedure

Find the full model number on the label on the back of the monitor. Use it to locate the matching product page on MSI Support, where MSI provides product downloads and manuals. A family name such as Optix or MAG is not enough to establish the right screw locations, clip positions, cable routing or opening direction.

The detailed official procedure referenced here is for the PRO MP275QPG V4 family. It can illustrate the precautions and kinds of steps involved, but it is not an instruction set for an unidentified gaming monitor. If you cannot find a guide for your exact model, do not infer the opening method from another MSI monitor.

Stand removal is not the same as opening the monitor

Task What it is for What the available MSI instructions establish Main concern
Remove the stand Mounting, transport or replacing the stand For the PRO MP275QPG V4 family only, MSI says to place the monitor screen-down on a steady, protected surface, remove the stand screws and lift the stand away. Stand attachment methods vary. Confirm the model’s manual; do not assume it uses screws rather than a quick release or another arrangement.
Open the rear cover Accessing internal boards or components for repair The PRO guide describes releasing cover edges, carefully prying at the bottom and lifting the cover while watching for speaker cables. Those steps apply only where the exact model’s service guide supports them. Panel, clips, internal cables and components can be damaged. Check regional warranty terms and service options before proceeding.

For a VESA installation, use the mounting pattern, fasteners and stand-removal instructions specified for your exact monitor. Removing the stand does not require opening the rear cover unless the model’s instructions explicitly say otherwise.

Prepare safely before any model-approved disassembly

MSI’s PRO MP275QPG V4 service guide gives the following preparation directions for its covered model. Treat them as baseline safety precautions, not confirmation that your gaming monitor can be opened in the same way.

  • Power off the monitor and the connected computer, unplug both power cords from their outlets, and disconnect every cable from the monitor.
  • Use a steady work surface. For the covered stand-removal procedure, MSI specifies a steady, protected surface with the monitor face down.
  • Keep pressure off the display surface. MSI warns that the panel is fragile and can break.
  • Use dry hands. Before handling electrostatic-sensitive components, use an anti-static wrist strap.
  • Keep track of every screw so it can be returned to the correct location during reassembly.

The guide lists a cross-head screwdriver and pry tool among possible tools, with tweezers, a parallel screwdriver, diagonal pliers, a heat gun and an anti-static wrist strap listed as optional or applicable to certain tasks. Its screw information is reference-only and may vary by model. A tool list is not evidence that a particular tool or opening method is suitable for your monitor.

How stand removal works on the documented PRO model

For the PRO MP275QPG V4 family, MSI’s guide says to lay the monitor face down on a steady, protected surface, remove the screws securing the stand, and lift the stand off. The guide does not establish that an unspecified MSI gaming monitor has the same screw arrangement. Check the exact model’s manual for its release mechanism and any mounting instructions before trying to remove the stand.

Why rear-cover access needs the exact service guide

On the covered PRO model, MSI describes pressing along the top and sides of the rear cover, carefully using a pry tool at the bottom edge, and lifting the cover gently. It warns that speaker cables may still connect the cover to the monitor and calls for care when disconnecting them. The guide also describes removing the navigation board, speakers and cables from the cover.

Those details show why opening directions cannot safely be generalized: a cover can remain tethered by cables even after its edges are released. Do not copy the PRO guide’s sequence on an Optix, MAG, MPG or other model unless that monitor’s own service instructions confirm it. Stop if the cover resists or you cannot identify a cable or fastener rather than forcing it.

Check warranty terms and service routes before internal repair

MSI’s warranty policy says terms vary by region and lists damage from unauthorized third-party repair among exclusions. It also states that policy terms do not diminish applicable statutory consumer protections. The policy does not support a blanket claim that opening any MSI monitor automatically voids every warranty; coverage depends on the applicable regional terms, circumstances and law.
