The Bauhn ATV55UHDW-0124 is a 55-inch 4K television sold through ALDI promotions, but CHOICE’s published test found a clear trade-off: 4K video looked good, while standard- and high-definition picture quality and sound were only OK. Its 70% expert rating did not meet CHOICE’s recommendation threshold. The A$429 shown on CHOICE’s product page is a listed page price, not confirmation of a current offer or stock.
What is the Bauhn ATV55UHDW-0124?
It is a 55-inch LCD television with a 3840 × 2160-pixel resolution and LG’s Web OS Hub platform, according to the exact-model listing on CHOICE’s product page. The listing displays a semi-gloss screen, three HDMI inputs, two rear USB 2 inputs, and Amazon and Stan in its app field. These are the specifications displayed on that review page; they do not establish that every service remains available or supported now.
The same CHOICE listing gives dimensions of 78 × 123 × 25 cm, a weight of 9.8 kg, a one-year warranty and a price of A$429. That is the page’s listed price, not a verified current retail offer. The page does not state a VESA mounting pattern or Bluetooth version.

How did it perform in CHOICE’s test?
CHOICE’s article, last updated 23 September 2025, reports a 70% expert rating for the ATV55UHDW-0124. CHOICE described it as the highest-scoring Aldi TV it had tested at that time, but the score still fell short of its recommendation threshold. The detailed category scores and full recommendation information are behind CHOICE member access, so they are not available in the public summary.
#1 Best Overall
- Breathtaking picture: Sharp 4K brings out rich detail on our 55" flat screen TV, while the QLED screen and HDR10 create bright, accurate colors. Roku Smart Picture cleans up incoming TV signals, optimizes them, and chooses the right picture mode.
- Seamless streaming: With fast Wi-Fi and apps that launch in a snap, Roku Select Series TVs get you to your entertainment quickly. You get excellent picture quality, clear sound, automatic updates, and more. It’s simple to use. Hard to outgrow.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- A world of free entertainment: Enjoy a huge selection of free live TV, news, sports, movies, shows, and much more—all just a click away.
- More streaming, less searching: With personalized picks right on your Home Screen, quick access to the sports and entertainment you watch most, and fast and easy search in one place—the days of endless scrolling are over.
4K versus SD and HD picture
CHOICE’s summary says 4K video looked good, while standard-definition and high-definition picture quality looked only OK. That distinction matters if most of your viewing is broadcast television or older HD content: a 4K panel does not mean all sources will look equally good. The public findings do not specify a category score or quantify how much the picture changes between formats.
Sound
CHOICE rated the sound quality OK. The test team described it as “a bit harsh while lacking in punch and warmth.” That is a tester observation, not an owner report. The published summary does not provide a measured sound score or establish how the set performs with an external audio system.
Is it worth buying?
CHOICE’s results make this a cautious, price-and-use-case decision rather than a clear recommendation. It may suit someone who finds the model during an ALDI promotion and mainly wants a large screen for 4K material, provided the actual price and return terms are acceptable. It is less compelling if you mostly watch SD or HD broadcasts or place high importance on sound quality.

CHOICE tech expert Denis Gallagher said, “So far we haven’t really seen a Bauhn TV that’s performed especially well.” That is Gallagher’s broader expert view, not a separate test result for every Bauhn television. For this specific 0124 model, the published findings remain the 70% rating and the picture and sound summary above.
Availability, warranty and support
Bauhn says its products are sold exclusively through ALDI stores in Australia on a promotional basis. This means availability can depend on an individual promotion; CHOICE’s exact-model page currently displays no retailer prices or purchase links. Check ALDI’s current offers and confirm the exact model suffix before buying rather than assuming the A$429 listing reflects stock or today’s price. Bauhn’s support page directs owners to manuals and software updates.
CHOICE lists a one-year warranty for the ATV55UHDW-0124. An official manual available for the related ATV55UHDW-1024 concerns a different suffix, so its warranty and other terms should not be treated as confirmed terms for this model.

What to check before choosing it
If you find an ATV55UHDW-0124 offer, compare it with alternatives using the viewing and ownership factors that matter most to you:
- Your usual content: CHOICE reported stronger results for 4K than for SD and HD picture quality.
- Sound: the published assessment was only OK, with the test team noting a harsh character and a lack of punch and warmth.
- Apps and connections: the CHOICE listing names Amazon and Stan and shows three HDMI inputs and two rear USB 2 inputs. Confirm the services and inputs you need on the actual set.
- Price and stock: treat A$429 as CHOICE’s displayed page price, not a current offer; check whether the promotion is active.
- Mounting and terms: the listing does not state a VESA pattern, and the exact-model page lists a one-year warranty. Verify mounting compatibility and the retailer’s purchase and return terms before committing.
CHOICE’s public exact-model summary does not establish refresh-rate gaming performance, HDR performance, brightness, or the completeness of the app selection. Those features should not be assumed from the resolution or platform name alone.
