BasiGo is an electric-mobility company that sells and leases electric buses to public-transport operators in Kenya and Rwanda. The buses are only part of the story: the company pairs them with a Pay-As-You-Drive lease, depot charging and after-sales service. No independently verified, current fleet total for both countries is available. The figures below are therefore dated company or industry-association statements, and each one is labelled as a delivery, plan or reservation.
How BasiGo’s model works
BasiGo describes its Pay-As-You-Drive approach as a way to lower the upfront cost barrier to electric-bus adoption. Its homepage describes tech-enabled leasing together with a charging and service network. The customer is a bus or matatu operator, not a private car buyer.
In a March 2025 Rwanda announcement, BasiGo said its offer covered charging, service and maintenance, and insurance, with a 90% uptime guarantee. Those are company-stated terms from that announcement. Confirm current terms with BasiGo before assuming they apply in both countries.

Where the buses operate
Kenya
Kenya is BasiGo’s home market. The Q4 2025 newsletter of the E-Mobility Association of Kenya says BasiGo deployed 84 additional buses on Kenyan roads during 2025. That is a retrospective industry-association figure for one year in one country, not a cumulative total.

Rwanda
BasiGo says it introduced the R10 Rumuri to Kigali operators and passengers in December 2023. On 6 March 2025 it said 28 buses were en route to Rwanda, with delivery expected in April and May 2025. It also described a plan to deliver 100 buses in Rwanda during 2025 and cited more than 360 reservations. CEO and co-founder Jit Bhattacharya said: “BasiGo is proud to be delivering the largest shipment of electric buses to date into Rwanda.” That is an executive’s statement, not an independent ranking.
Whether the 100-bus Rwanda plan was completed is not established by the available sources. Reservations are not deliveries. Rwanda’s government has a separate policy target of 20% of the public bus fleet being electric by 2030, as reported by the Rwanda Development Board. That is not a BasiGo commitment.

The sources do not show that every model is offered in every market today. Check model availability, capacity and quantities with BasiGo or the operator before relying on this list.

- 100 buses across Kenya and Rwanda: a BasiGo page titled “BasiGo Deploys 100th Electric Bus in East Africa”. The page shows 31 July but the year is unclear in the available result. It is a company-reported historical milestone, not today’s fleet size.
- 28 buses en route to Rwanda: BasiGo, 6 March 2025, a shipment rather than completed deployment.
- More than 360 Rwanda reservations: BasiGo, 6 March 2025.
- 84 additional Kenyan buses in 2025: E-Mobility Association of Kenya, Q4 2025.
Charging and service infrastructure
Depots are central to the model because buses are typically charged overnight and must be back on the road for the day’s routes.

Rwanda
The March 2025 announcement described a planned upgrade of the Rwandex service and charging depot to 1 MW of power, with capacity to charge 25 buses nightly. It also said more charging stations would be deployed for inter-city routes. These are announced specifications, not a verified inventory.
Kenya
The Q4 2025 association newsletter reports five new depots commissioned in Komarock, Pipeline, Riruta, Juja and Nyahururu. It says they use DC fast chargers supporting GB/T and CCS2 connectors. It also says BasiGo was appointed authorized CATL Battery Service Agent for Sub-Saharan Africa, which bears on battery support.

Inter-city electric matatu pilot
On 22 July 2025 BasiGo announced an inter-city electric matatu pilot with charging stations in Nyahururu and Thika. It described the pilot vans as having up to 300 km of range and a 1.5-hour recharge. These figures are for those vans, not for BasiGo’s buses, and “up to” matters: real range depends on conditions.
What cannot be concluded
- Current total fleet size across both countries.
- The total number of depots or sites today.
- Whether each model is currently on sale in each country.
- Total cost of ownership compared with diesel buses. The sources support no such comparison.
- Emissions savings. Any such figures would be company projections, and none are cited here.
When assessing any BasiGo number, check the country, the date, who reported it, and whether it describes a plan, a reservation, a shipment or a completed deployment.
