The Bark Phone may suit a child’s first-phone needs if you want to decide which contacts, apps and web access are allowed. It combines Samsung hardware with Bark’s phone service and parental controls; it is not just a regular Galaxy A16 with an optional app. The main trade-off is that the strictest plan blocks internet and apps, while more flexible plans add monthly cost. Pricing also differs between Bark’s own pages, so confirm the device payment and service plan at checkout.
What is the Bark Phone?
Bark identifies its standard Bark Phone as a Samsung A16 and its Bark Phone Pro as a Samsung A37. Both devices are listed with 6.7-inch screens and 128 GB of storage; Bark lists 4 GB of RAM for the standard model and 6 GB for Pro. Bark also describes the Pro as IP68 water- and dust-resistant with stronger screen glass, compared with IP54 for the standard phone. These are Bark’s product specifications, not independent test results. Bark Phone product page
The distinction from buying a regular Samsung A16 matters: Bark Phone includes Bark’s configured controls and requires Bark wireless service. A standard A16 should not be assumed to include either. Bark says parents manage the child’s phone from a separate parent device running Android or iOS. Bark Phone product page
What can a child do on each plan?
| Plan | What Bark lists | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Starter — $29/month | Talk and text with approved contacts, location features, and no internet, app store, games, social media or voicemail. Bark Phone product page; Bark Support pricing article | A child who needs calling, texting and location but is not ready for apps or web browsing. |
| Advanced — $39/month, Wi-Fi-only use | Parent-selected apps and browsers; Bark advertises app-by-app controls, app time limits, screen-time schedules and website blocking. Bark Phone product page | A child who needs selected apps or web access, with internet use restricted to Wi-Fi. |
| Advanced — $49/month, 4 GB | Selected apps and browsers with a listed 4 GB data allowance. Bark Phone product page | A family that wants some mobile data and can work within the stated allowance. |
| Advanced — $59/month, 8 GB | Selected apps and browsers with a listed 8 GB data allowance. Bark Phone product page | A family that needs more mobile data than the 4 GB tier. |
| Advanced — $79/month, listed unlimited data | Selected apps and browsers. Bark says speeds may be reduced after 35 GB in a month and further reduced or data turned off after 50 GB. Bark Phone product page | A family that expects heavier data use and accepts Bark’s stated speed and service limits. |
Bark says families can change plans without changing phones. The monthly plan controls more than the data allowance: Starter is a calling-and-texting setup, whereas Advanced opens access to parent-selected apps and browsers. If internet access is a requirement, Starter is not the right tier.

What parental controls does Bark describe?
Bark markets content monitoring with alerts, parent-approved contacts and app installs, texts that children cannot delete, remote alarms and locking, and tamper-resistant settings. It also lists location features. These are company-described capabilities; the available product information does not independently establish how reliably monitoring detects problems or how tamper resistance performs in practice. In practice, the plan determines the boundaries parents can set: Starter removes app and web access, while Advanced allows selected apps and browsers alongside scheduling, time limits and website blocking. Families should consider whether those restrictions match the child’s needs, as well as how they want to discuss monitoring and approved contacts with the child.

How much does the Bark Phone cost?
Bark’s current product page lists standard-device financing at $15 per month for 24 months and Bark Phone Pro at $25 per month for 24 months. A separate Bark Support pricing article lists the standard phone at $240 upfront or $10 per month for 24 months. Because these official pages show different standard-device prices, treat the amount shown at checkout as the one to verify; taxes and other terms may apply. For example, using Bark’s live product-page figures, a standard phone financed at the listed $15/month plus Starter service at $29/month comes to $44 per month before taxes for the 24-month device-financing period. With the $39 Wi-Fi-only Advanced tier, the corresponding total is $54 per month before taxes. Is Bark Phone better than adding controls to a phone you already own?
It depends on whether you want a dedicated Bark phone line and bundled configuration or prefer to keep an existing device. Bark also offers a separate app for existing iOS and Android devices, describing monitoring, screen-time management, blocking and location features. That can be a relevant alternative for a family that already has a suitable phone, though the available product information does not establish that the app and Bark Phone have identical controls. Availability, returns and cases
Bark says the phone is currently available only to families in the United States. For a direct purchase from Bark, its product page describes a 60-day device-return window; service payments are not refundable. If purchased through a third-party seller such as Amazon or Walmart, Bark directs customers to that retailer’s return policy. Check the applicable terms at purchase. Bark Phone product page
A Samsung Galaxy A16 case should not be assumed to fit simply because Bark identifies its device as A16 hardware. Samsung’s U.S. accessory listing is for an A16 5G case and does not explicitly confirm fit with Bark Phone; check dimensions and camera/button cutouts before buying. The Samsung listing was out of stock when referenced. Samsung Galaxy A16 5G case

Who should consider the Bark Phone?
It is a plausible first phone for a family that prioritizes parent-controlled contacts, app approvals, web access and location over a conventional, unrestricted smartphone experience. Starter makes the phone particularly limited by design; Advanced is more suitable when a child needs selected apps or browsing. Families should weigh the ongoing service cost and mandatory Bark wireless service against a control app on a phone they already own. Bark’s monitoring and safety features are vendor claims, not independently verified outcomes.
