Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is examining what comes next for television audience ratings after their suspension, including the possibility of multiple rating services. He announced neither approval for additional agencies nor a date for ratings to resume.
What did Gaurav Dwivedi say about the BARC ratings suspension?
In a report published on 1 October 2026, Hindustan Times quoted Dwivedi speaking after a panel discussion at FICCI Frames in Mumbai. He said the matter was under consideration at the ministry level and described it as the ministry’s domain.

Dwivedi also said he had been told that BARC’s structural issues were resolved and that BARC had submitted reports to the government. He said BARC and other media associations had made representations. Those are statements attributed to Dwivedi in the news report; they are not independently verified findings here.

Are multiple television rating agencies approved?
No approval was announced in Dwivedi’s reported remarks. He said there had been consideration of “multiple currencies” because other organizations had applied to measure viewership. That describes a possibility under examination, not a confirmed decision to authorize more providers.

When will BARC ratings resume?
Dwivedi gave no restart date, and the Hindustan Times report does not provide one. It describes ratings as suspended across genres for nearly three months as of publication, but does not give a precise start date or cite a formal suspension order.
