More Origins is a community mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 that describes its Universal NPC Recruitment feature as experimental. It is intended to let custom Origins recruit almost any NPC as a controllable party member and dismiss them to camp, but “any” is not a guarantee that every character will work reliably in every save or setup.

What More Origins does

The More Origins mod gives players access to a roster of NPC-based Origins; its Nexus Mods listing names Raphael, Isobel, Orin, and Scratch as examples. It also describes Universal NPC Recruitment, which allows custom Origins to recruit NPCs into the party and dismiss them to camp. This is community-created functionality, not an official feature of Baldur’s Gate 3.

The Nexus Mods listing shows version 2.4.0.1094, last updated January 12, 2026. Mod features and requirements can change, so consult the More Origins listing for its current details.

Does it really let you recruit any NPC?

Not reliably enough to treat “any NPC” as a literal promise. The mod author labels Universal NPC Recruitment experimental and describes it as working with “almost any NPC.” That wording signals broad intended coverage, not a guarantee that every character can be recruited, controlled, or safely carried through all story events.

Baldur's Gate 3 - For Playstation 5 (Japan Import) (Multi Language)
  • Online multiplayer for up to four players - allows you to combine your forces in combat, and split your party to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it
  • Origin Character - offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes
  • Evolved turn-based combat - based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, and roll modifiers join combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight
  • Define the future of the Forgotten Realms - through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story
  • Player-initiated turn-based mode - allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!

One search-indexed personal account describes recruiting Elegis, a background NPC, with More Origins and Immersive Nudity installed. The player said Elegis remained talkative and followed across regions, while other recruited characters went mute or failed to follow. That is an anecdotal example of variation between characters, not a measure of how commonly the feature works.

What to expect when moving through the game

More Origins’ changelog says version 2.3.0 added a “Grand Parade” option for summoning unlocked Origins and fixed an issue in which characters left the party after act changes. Version 2.4.0.1094 describes an improved solution for cross-region travel. These are changes reported by the mod author; they do not establish that every recruited NPC will remain in the party, retain dialogue, or behave correctly after a transition.

Baldur's Gate 3 Deluxe Edition PC Video Game, Stickers & Soundtrack
  • Immersive RPG Experience: Dive into the highly-anticipated Baldur's Gate 3, a captivating role-playing game set in the iconic Dungeons & Dragons universe.
  • Deluxe Edition: This premium edition includes the base game, exclusive stickers, and an official soundtrack to enhance your adventure.
  • Epic Storytelling: Embark on an epic journey filled with complex narratives, challenging quests, and memorable characters.
  • Tactical Combat: Engage in strategic, turn-based battles that require careful planning and execution of your party's abilities.
  • Customizable Characters: Create and customize your own unique heroes, shaping their appearances, abilities, and personalities to fit your playstyle.

In practice, treat recruitment as a character-by-character experiment. If a recruited NPC becomes silent, stops following, or disappears after a transition, the available reports do not establish a universal fix. Check the mod’s current instructions and changelog for relevant updates before continuing with that character.

Requirements and compatibility to check

The listing identifies Norbyte’s Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender as a requirement for helping set Origins to start at level 1. The available information does not say that this dependency is required for every More Origins feature, so check the listing’s instructions for the specific option you plan to use.

  • Confirm that the mod and any required components match your game version and setup.
  • Keep a separate save before experimenting with NPC recruitment or moving between acts and regions.

The available information does not establish a dependable compatibility matrix covering platforms, game versions, saves, or every mod combination. Do not assume the experimental feature will work on every installation.

Is More Origins worth trying?

It may suit players who want to experiment with NPC party members or try the mod’s custom Origin options. The key trade-off is unpredictability: recruitment is explicitly experimental, and individual NPCs may differ in dialogue and travel behavior. Treat it as optional community content, review the current listing before installing, and preserve a save you can return to if a recruited character behaves unexpectedly.
