The Bad Magpie demo is listed on Steam and Xbox. Steam explicitly labels its demo free and gives an October 8, 2026 release date; the Xbox listing reports August 10, 2026 and says it can be played on PC and handheld. Because those storefront dates differ, neither should be treated as a single confirmed launch date for every platform.

The Xbox listing page was not accessible for direct verification; its date and platform wording come from the indexed official store listing. For the Steam listing, the displayed requirements specify Windows 10 64-bit with DirectX 12, or macOS 12 Monterey or later. The Steam page also shows unusually small memory and storage figures, so those figures are not useful as dependable installation guidance.

What you do in the demo
Bad Magpie is a single-player narrative adventure about a one-winged magpie, a missing flock, shiny objects, and a fallen star. The demo puts you in a corner of one of the full game’s three areas, where your immediate goal is to find meteorite shards scattered around the map. Steam describes a few lines of text before and after the playable section; the full game’s story is conveyed through gameplay.

Steam lists 14 interface and subtitle languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Ukrainian.

In a June 10, 2026 preview, Xbox Wire editor Will Fulton described a roughly half-hour session in which the injured magpie had been separated from its flock and could hop rather than fly. Fulton reported that the preview build required turning in 20 meteorite shards, with 30 available in the area he played. Those counts describe that preview build, not guaranteed totals for the released demo or full game.
When is the full game coming out?
Milktooth’s official site says Bad Magpie is coming in 2027. That is a planned year, not a specific release date. In its June 10, 2026 announcement, Xbox Wire said the full game is planned for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, and Game Pass, with Xbox Play Anywhere. These are announced plans, not confirmation of a final launch schedule or availability on every service and platform today.

The Steam page for the full game says “Coming soon” and displays a Tribeca Festival Official Selection 2026 laurel; it does not give a dated release window.
