AYN said on April 17, 2026, that upcoming production batches of its Thor and Odin 3 handhelds would use UFS 3.1 storage instead of UFS 4.0. The same announcement raised the listed price of the Thor 16GB/1TB configuration and added a 16GB/512GB option. AYN attributed the storage change to supply economics, saying UFS 4.0 was “no longer available at a sustainable level.” These are dated announcement details, not current prices.
What AYN changed in April 2026
The announcement covered upcoming Thor and Odin 3 production batches. It does not establish that units already shipped were changed, or that every configuration and batch had identical storage. The change was the storage standard—UFS 4.0 to UFS 3.1—not a blanket reduction in advertised capacity.
AYN’s explanation, quoted in Liliputing’s April 17, 2026 report, was: “UFS 4.0 is no longer available at a sustainable level.” The report attributed the statement to AYN, without identifying a named executive.

| Thor configuration | April 2026 announcement detail |
|---|---|
| 16GB RAM / 1TB storage | Price rose from $449 to $549 |
| 16GB RAM / 512GB storage | New option listed at $469 |
| Thor Lite | Starting price reported as $249 |
The prominent increase was for the 16GB/1TB model. The new 16GB/512GB option offered less capacity at a lower announcement price; capacity and storage speed are separate specifications. A 1TB configuration does not, by virtue of capacity alone, have faster storage.
What UFS 3.1 means for gaming
UFS 4.0 is theoretically faster than UFS 3.1, so the switch is a reduction in the storage generation’s performance ceiling. That does not establish a specific slowdown in games on the affected AYN batches. Liliputing and Android Authority’s April 17 coverage discussed potential implications, but neither provides a controlled comparison of UFS 4.0 and UFS 3.1 in these handhelds.
Faster storage can matter for data-heavy operations. Android Authority noted that users might wait longer for loading, installations, updates, or saves, but those are possible effects—not measured results for these models. Both standards should be sufficient for many basic tasks. A buyer cannot infer an exact game-load-time penalty from the storage label alone.

April prices are not current prices
Subsequent notices changed the pricing picture. Android Authority reported on June 29, 2026, that Thor prices would rise by $10 for several models and by $30 for the 1TB Max, effective July 3. On August 26, GamesRadar reported another Odin 3 increase, effective September 1: Base from $349 to $369, Pro from $449 to $469, and Max from $499 to $529. These later notices reinforce that the April figures should not be treated as current.
