Some legacy AT&T Fiber and Internet Air customers were reportedly due to pay $5 more per month starting August 16, 2026. The reported increase is targeted—not a confirmed across-the-board rate change for every AT&T Internet customer. If your bill rose, check whether the change is a new recurring plan rate, a changed discount, or a separate charge.

Did AT&T raise Internet prices by $5 in August 2026?

Android Central reported on July 20, 2026, citing internal documents obtained by PhoneArena, that AT&T planned a $5 monthly increase for customers on legacy Fiber and Internet Air plans beginning August 16, 2026. The report said existing promotional discounts would remain in place, but a higher base rate could still raise the amount due.

This is a reported increase, not a published AT&T tariff applying to every customer. AT&T’s public Internet Fee Schedule does not list a blanket $5 monthly hike for all Internet plans, and the report does not establish that every customer, plan, or state was affected. Your account documents and bill notice are the best way to determine whether your service was included.

How to tell why your AT&T bill went up

  1. Compare the new bill with the previous one. Look for a recurring change to the Internet plan charge, a changed or expired discount, or a one-time line item. A base-rate increase and a remaining promotional discount can coexist.
  2. Read the notice and service documents. Check the price-change notice, Customer Service Summary, and Order Confirmation for your plan name, recurring price, discount terms, and effective date. AT&T’s Internet Terms say the Customer Service Summary or Order Confirmation and applicable Internet Fee Schedule govern the service.
  3. Match any extra charge to the fee schedule. AT&T’s fee schedule covers Fiber, Internet, Internet Air, Fixed Wireless, and DSL. It says listed fees are generally added to the plan charge, exclude taxes, and may be changed or added by updating the schedule; the version cited here is effective January 30, 2025.

Some older Internet and Fiber plans may have a monthly Wi-Fi Gateway fee of $2, $4, $7, or $10, depending on the plan and purchase date. AT&T says current plans offered for sale do not carry an equipment fee. The fee schedule also lists conditional charges, including $150 for unreturned Fiber or Internet equipment, $200 for unreturned Internet Air equipment, $150 for Fiber technician installation, $150 for a Fiber repair dispatch, late-payment fees up to $9.99, and returned-payment fees up to $30. These are not the reported $5 recurring increase; check the specific bill entry and applicable terms before assuming a charge applies.

Options if your monthly price increased

Stay on the legacy plan

Staying may make sense if the plan still meets your needs and a move would sacrifice a useful discount, speed, or service feature. Ask AT&T to confirm the new recurring price, whether your discount remains and for how long, and whether any equipment fee is separate. Request the terms in writing before agreeing to a plan change.

Compare current AT&T Fiber plans

AT&T announced a replacement Fiber lineup beginning June 7, 2026, with 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 GIG, and 5 GIG tiers. Availability and pricing depend on the service address and order terms. AT&T advertised qualifying wireless bundles with savings of up to $420 per year and Fiber bundled for as low as $35 per month before taxes and fees; the advertised offer requires qualifying wireless service and has limited availability. Confirm the price, bundle requirements, and any time limit in your own order documents rather than assuming the advertised amount will apply.

Is AT&T Fiber still cheaper with wireless?

It can be, for an eligible customer, but the advertised $35-per-month bundled Fiber price is before taxes and fees, requires qualifying wireless service, and is subject to limited availability. The stated savings of up to $420 per year are also conditional on qualifying for the bundle; they are not a guaranteed discount for every Fiber customer. Compare the combined Internet and wireless bill with what you would pay without the bundle, including the post-promotion price and any plan changes required to qualify.
