Atlassian has set March 28, 2029, at 23:59 PST as the end-of-life date for several Data Center products. But it is not the only deadline: new customers lost the ability to buy affected subscriptions in March 2026, and existing customers face purchase and expansion limits in March 2028. The dates apply to specific products, not every Atlassian Data Center product.

What are the three Atlassian Data Center deadlines?

Atlassian’s published schedule separates the end of new sales, the end of new purchases and expansions for existing customers, and the final end of life (EOL). The times below are Pacific Standard Time (PST), as Atlassian states them.

Date What changes
March 30, 2026, 23:59 PST New customers can no longer purchase affected Data Center subscriptions or new Data Center Marketplace apps.
March 30, 2028, 23:59 PST Existing customers can no longer purchase new affected Data Center subscriptions or Marketplace apps, or expand subscriptions. They may still renew current subscriptions, but a renewal cannot extend past EOL.
March 28, 2029, 23:59 PST Affected subscriptions and associated Marketplace app licenses expire, and the environment becomes read-only. A 12-month renewal that would run beyond EOL is prorated to end at EOL.

As of October 3, 2026, the new-customer sales cutoff has passed; the purchase-and-expansion cutoff for existing customers and the EOL date are still ahead. These are separate milestones: the 2026 date does not mean every customer must have migrated by then, and the 2029 date does not mean there are no changes before then. See Atlassian’s Data Center end-of-life information and its Data Center licensing information.

Which products are included—and which are not?

Atlassian’s announcement covers the following products and apps:

  • Jira Software Data Center
  • Jira Service Management Data Center
  • Confluence Data Center
  • Bamboo Data Center
  • Crowd Data Center
  • Data Center mobile apps and Atlassian Data Center apps
  • Third-party Marketplace apps for affected products

Two exclusions matter for planning:

  • Bitbucket Data Center is not ending under this announcement. Atlassian says existing Bitbucket Data Center customers will receive access to a hybrid license for Data Center and Cloud.
  • Jira Align Data Center is not included in this EOL announcement.

Check Atlassian’s product-specific EOL guidance before treating a product or app as in scope; the announced dates do not apply indiscriminately to every Atlassian deployment.

What happens to an affected environment after March 28, 2029?

At EOL, affected subscriptions and associated app licenses expire, and the environment becomes read-only. Read-only access lets an organization view existing data; it is not permission to continue ordinary product use. Atlassian warns customers not to leave an expired environment connected to the internet because it will no longer receive new security bug fixes after EOL.

Through March 28, 2029, Atlassian says it will provide technical support, security bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities, and connectors from Data Center products to Atlassian Cloud. Extended maintenance after EOL may be available to some customers by exception; Atlassian does not describe it as a general extension for all customers.

How should existing customers plan a migration?

Start with the business and technical constraints rather than assuming that moving to Cloud is automatically suitable. Atlassian identifies complex data-sovereignty and compliance requirements as reasons organizations may need additional planning. Compare your requirements and migration options against these areas:

  • Product scope: Confirm whether each product is included in the EOL announcement, particularly if your environment includes Bitbucket or Jira Align.
  • Residency, security and compliance: Validate that a proposed destination meets your organization’s obligations.
  • Apps and functionality: Check whether your Marketplace apps are available in Cloud and whether their Cloud versions meet your needs.
  • Migration effort: Account for data complexity, user count, test cycles and cutover work.
  • Timing and cost: Plan for license overlap, support needs and total cost, not just the migration date.

Test the migration before production

Atlassian’s Cloud Migration Checklist recommends developing test cases and conducting user acceptance testing (UAT). Review the results, address problems and retry the migration when needed. Treat the test as a way to identify data, app and workflow issues before production cutover.

Choose and coordinate a cutover window

Pick a period of low activity, allow time for delays, communicate the plan, and coordinate with support teams. Restricting changes during cutover may help keep systems consistent, where appropriate for your organization. Back up data before the production migration.

If you are migrating more than 1,000 users, Atlassian advises telling the Cloud Migration Manager the production migration date at least one month in advance. Its checklist is available at Atlassian’s Cloud Migration Checklist.

Confirm trials and migration assistance directly

Atlassian’s licensing FAQ says existing Data Center customers can receive Cloud migration trials that match their remaining Data Center subscription duration, up to 12 months, and their user tier, up to 20,000. It also says Marketplace apps can be trialed for 30 days. Eligibility and current terms should be confirmed with Atlassian; see its Data Center licensing FAQ.

Atlassian directs customers to their account executive or its contact page to discuss next steps. Its Ascend page describes FastShift as a white-glove migration service, presented as complimentary for organizations with more than 1,000 users. Eligibility and current program terms are vendor-set, so confirm them with Atlassian. Organizations can also consider help from a Solution Partner where their migration needs warrant specialist support; see Atlassian Ascend.
