The ATI Radeon X1800 GTO was a value-positioned graphics card in ATI’s Radeon X1800 family, announced on March 9, 2006. Its launch suggested retail price was $249. Period sources identify it as an R520-based card, but the available information does not establish current driver support, modern compatibility, or performance in today’s games.

When did the Radeon X1800 GTO launch, and what did it cost?

ATI announced the Radeon X1800 GTO on March 9, 2006, and said partner cards were expected by the end of March. ATI’s suggested retail price at launch was $249; that historical figure is not a current used-market valuation. ATI’s announcement, reproduced by HotHardware, also called it a “clear price-performance winner”—a launch-era marketing claim, not an independent benchmark finding.

What are the Radeon X1800 GTO’s specifications?

A March 31, 2006 report from ITmedia PC USER describes a specific Kuroutoshikou partner board. Its listed specifications are:

Specification Reported Kuroutoshikou board
Interface PCI Express x16
Memory 256 MB GDDR3
Memory bus 256-bit
Core clock 500 MHz

These figures describe the board in that report; they should not be assumed to cover every manufacturer’s X1800 GTO or every board revision. Confirm the exact model and revision when identifying a particular card.

What GPU does it use, and how does it relate to the X1800 XT?

Contemporary Tom’s Hardware Italia coverage from CeBIT in March 2006 identifies the X1800 GTO as using ATI’s R520 GPU and describes one pixel-shader quad as disabled relative to the X1800 XT. That is an architectural distinction; by itself, it does not establish benchmark results or show how the card performs in a particular game.

What should you check before buying a used X1800 GTO?

The launch-era sources establish historical details, not current availability or suitability for a modern PC. Before buying a used card, verify the item itself and the terms of the sale:

ATI’s Radeon X1800 CrossFire user guide concerns CrossFire Edition system requirements. Those requirements should not be treated as applying to every X1800 GTO. The cited launch and period coverage do not establish current operating-system driver support, compatibility with a particular modern computer, or usefulness for current games.
