The ASUS Zenbook S 14 UX5406SA with Intel Core Ultra 7 256V is tuned for quick everyday response rather than heavy multi-core work. HotHardware’s October 14, 2024 review found strong single-threaded results and capable integrated graphics in selected tests, but its eight-core CPU and lack of hyper-threading limit throughput against processors with more cores. The review’s second page also examines MyASUS controls and explains why buyers should choose memory capacity carefully: the on-package RAM is not user-upgradeable.
What this page of the review covers
This is the second page of HotHardware’s three-page review of the ASUS Zenbook S 14 UX5406SA. It focuses on the installed MyASUS software and benchmark results for the reviewed Core Ultra 7 256V configuration. The review also discusses a separate 32 GB Core Ultra 7 258V configuration; those results should not be treated as measurements of the 256V unit. Read HotHardware’s page-two review.
What MyASUS lets you control
In the software version installed on the review sample, MyASUS brought together system information, diagnostics, system updates and BIOS updates, as well as several device settings. Interface labels and features can change with software versions, so the review documents the tested installation rather than guaranteeing the same layout on every unit today.
- Battery care: settings for managing battery behavior.
- Fan profile: the reviewer used the default Performance profile for the main testing on page two.
- OLED care: controls intended for the laptop’s OLED display.
- Input behavior: touchpad gestures could adjust volume and brightness and control media playback.
- GPU memory: the setting showed 512 MB by default, but the driver could adjust allocation dynamically. The reviewer observed games using up to 8 GB before encountering a problem; that observation is not a guaranteed allocation or compatibility limit.
How the Core Ultra 7 256V performs
Fast response, limited multi-core headroom
HotHardware found the 256V responsive, particularly in single-threaded work. The reviewer described its wall-powered single-core result as among the best it had seen, but that is a characterization of its own test results—not a universal ranking across all processors or test suites. The CPU has eight cores and no hyper-threading, which limits its multi-core throughput compared with processors that have more cores.

That trade-off suits interactive tasks that benefit from quick response, but sustained workloads that scale across many cores are a less favorable fit. The benchmark page’s results apply to the review sample, its settings and its test suite; they do not predict performance in every application or configuration.
Integrated Arc graphics: useful, not a gaming-laptop substitute
The integrated Arc graphics produced strong results in selected 3DMark tests, and HotHardware found some games playable. That does not make the Zenbook S 14 a dedicated gaming laptop: demanding games and higher graphics settings can lower frame rates, and the review says integrated graphics do not replace a discrete GPU for graphics-heavy creation or demanding gaming.

In one Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail benchmark, the reviewer observed no thermal throttling. Synthetic power-virus tests could force throttling, so the game result should not be generalized to every heavy workload. The review’s third page covers thermal and noise testing.
Office work and multitasking depend on memory capacity
The laptop performed respectably in PCMark 10 Applications, a benchmark relevant to common productivity software. HotHardware reports that its 32 GB Core Ultra 7 258V comparison model outpaced the reviewed 256V system in that benchmark. This comparison involves a different processor and memory configuration, so it is not an apples-to-apples measure of the effect of RAM alone. The review also emphasizes that capacity matters when juggling Office applications and browser tabs.

In the reviewed Lunar Lake configuration, memory is on-package and not user-upgradeable. Decide how much capacity you need when choosing the configuration rather than planning on a later RAM upgrade. The 256V sample and the separately discussed 258V/32 GB option are distinct configurations; confirm the exact regional SKU before buying.
Display, ports and desk-use trade-offs
HotHardware highlights the Zenbook S 14’s upscale, lightweight design and 2880 × 1800 HDR OLED display as key attractions. It lists HDMI, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 3.5 mm audio jack and one USB Type-A port. That selection may be enough for a light setup, but the review characterizes the total external I/O as limited for workstation use—particularly if you regularly connect several peripherals, wired networking or external storage.

A Thunderbolt dock is an optional way to add desk connectivity if its ports suit your devices. The review does not test or recommend a particular dock, and compatibility and port needs should be checked for the setup you plan to use.
How to interpret the review’s battery, noise and heat figures
These are HotHardware’s measurements from its 2024 review, not guarantees for other users. The conditions and modes matter: the main page-two tests used Performance mode, while the noise and thermal stress testing on page three used Full-speed fan mode.

| Measure | HotHardware’s reported result | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Battery video test | 21 hours, 43 minutes | HotHardware’s 2024 test result; the review contrasts it with ASUS’s 27-hour claim. Neither figure guarantees an individual laptop’s runtime. |
| Maximum recorded noise | 47.7 dB at one foot | HotHardware’s 2024 measurement during intensive tasks in Full-speed fan mode. |
| Keyboard-deck temperature | Above 110°F (43°C) | HotHardware’s 2024 test observation; the reviewer noted that this could be noticeable during gaming. |
Is the Zenbook S 14 the right kind of premium laptop?
The review’s strengths are its OLED display, lightweight design and responsiveness on wall power. Its trade-offs are modest multi-core performance against higher-core-count systems, reduced performance on battery power, limited ports and an SSD the reviewer considered ordinary for a premium laptop. The integrated GPU is appropriate for some graphics tests and games, but not a replacement for discrete graphics when demanding gaming or creation is the priority.
HotHardware’s review listed its tested unit at $1,399 and the 32 GB option at $1,499; those were launch-era review prices, not current offers. Current pricing, stock and regional configuration availability are not established here. For an alternative comparison, match the exact SKU and weigh single-core responsiveness against multi-core throughput, graphics capability, memory capacity and upgradeability, battery-test conditions, display, port needs and current local price. Notebookcheck’s Zenbook S 14 specifications collection can help cross-check configuration details, but regional SKUs vary.
