The ASUS RT-BE58 Go is a compact Wi-Fi 7 travel router for hotel rooms, tethered connections and other small-space setups. It accepts internet over Ethernet, public Wi-Fi or USB phone tethering, and independent testing found strong close-range performance. Its trade-offs are limited range, no 6 GHz band and just one wired LAN port.

What the RT-BE58 Go offers—and what it leaves out

ASUS announced the RT-BE58 Go on August 5, 2025, positioning it as a mini travel router. It is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 model: its radios operate on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, not 6 GHz. ASUS lists maximum PHY link rates of 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2,882 Mbps on 5 GHz. Those are theoretical wireless link rates, not expected internet speeds or guarantees of what a particular device will receive.

The physical layout is intentionally spare: one 2.5 Gbps WAN port and one 1 Gbps LAN port. That means it can accept a fast wired internet connection, but it does not provide a 2.5 Gbps wired LAN jack or multiple wired client ports. Wireless clients can connect over Wi-Fi; a switch could expand wired connections, but would add another device to a travel setup.

ASUS describes dual-band MLO and 4K-QAM among its Wi-Fi 7 features. These capabilities do not change the basic band layout: there is still no 6 GHz radio. The router has two external fold-away antennas and a customizable switch on the side, according to the product announcement and Tom’s Hardware’s review.

Specifications and availability vary by market. ASUS says product details and availability may change without notice and differ by country. For example, the Singapore listing specifies USB-C 18W PD; check the listing for your country and the router’s power requirements before choosing a third-party power bank.

How fast is it in independent testing?

Tom’s Hardware tested the router with an iPerf3 setup at 6 feet and 25 feet. On 5 GHz, it measured 865 Mbps at 6 feet and 391 Mbps at 25 feet. On 2.4 GHz, it measured 88 Mbps at 6 feet and 37 Mbps at 25 feet. The review also found that congested traffic reduced its 5 GHz results by 10–15 percent. These are that publication’s test results under its conditions, not a prediction for every home, hotel network or client device.

RTINGS likewise describes strong close-range speeds but disappointing range. Taken together, the reviews point to the router’s natural fit: a nearby laptop or phone in a hotel room, rather than dependable coverage across a large home. Distance, walls, interference, the source internet connection and client hardware can all affect actual results.

What can you connect it to while traveling?

The RT-BE58 Go can create a local network from several internet sources, making it more flexible than a router that only accepts an Ethernet connection. Tom’s Hardware reports setting it up with wired Ethernet, public Wi-Fi, USB phone tethering and a USB modem.

ASUS RT-BE58U WiFi 7 Router - Dual-WAN, 3.6 Gbps, Mesh + VPN Compatible
  • Beyond-fast WiFi 7 (802.11be) - WiFi 7 (802.11be) dual-band extendable router boosts speeds up to 3600 Mbps, with 4096-QAM increasing a single frequency band’s transmission speed by 1.2 times
  • Unleashing Multi-link operation (MLO) for Ultra-Smooth Connectivity - Link to multiple bands at the same time to ensure stable internet connections and efficient data transfers
  • Versatile WAN configuration options - Establish always-on internet through AI WAN detection and a convenient USB port ready for 4G LTE and 5G Mobile tethering.
  • Smart Home Master - Easily establish up to three SSIDs with Smart Home Master for easy IoT device setup and management, instant VPN connections, and convenient parental controls.
  • Commercial-Grade network security - Network security with commercial-grade AiProtection Pro powered by Trend Micro, plus a one-tap security scan and Safe Browsing.
  • Hotel or other wired internet: Connect the source to the 2.5 Gbps WAN port. The router can then provide Wi-Fi to your devices.
  • Public Wi-Fi: Use its WISP capability to join an available wireless network and share that connection with your own devices. This can be useful when you want a personal network, though it does not improve the upstream service’s speed or reliability.
  • Phone tethering: Connect a phone through the USB-A port for mobile internet. Availability and setup depend on the phone, carrier and connection settings.
  • Portable power: Tom’s Hardware reports using a USB-C portable battery pack to power the router. Confirm that a particular power source meets the router’s requirements; the reviewer’s experience does not establish compatibility for every bank.

These options make the RT-BE58 Go useful when the internet source changes from trip to trip. They do not remove the need to check hotel or public-network login requirements, mobile-data limits or the quality of the upstream connection.

Which software and network features are included?

ASUS lists VPN features, AiProtection, Guest Network Pro and AiMesh integration. It also advertises a customizable switch and Wi-Fi 7 features including MLO. These are supported product features, not independent findings that a particular VPN setup, security configuration or mesh arrangement will meet every user’s needs.

  • Ultrafast WiFi 7 – WiFi 7 (802.11be) dual-band extendable router boosts speed up to 6500 Mbps, with 4096-QAM increasing a single frequency band’s transmission speed by 1.2 times
  • Five 2.5GbE Ports – 2.5GbE ports prioritize traffic, optimizing wired internet connectivity for maximum performance

AiMesh can make the router relevant to an existing ASUS setup: RTINGS notes that compatible access points can be used to add coverage. That is an expansion path, not evidence that the RT-BE58 Go alone is suited to covering a large house. Check compatibility and configuration requirements for the specific ASUS devices you own.

Who should consider the RT-BE58 Go?

  • Frequent travelers: Its small, light body and multiple ways to bring internet into a personal Wi-Fi network suit hotel-room and temporary setups.
  • People who tether: USB phone tethering is an option when wired internet or usable public Wi-Fi is unavailable, subject to phone and carrier support.
  • Small-space users: Strong close-range test results make it more appropriate for nearby devices in a room than for broad, whole-home coverage.
  • Existing ASUS AiMesh owners: It may be useful as part of a compatible system, provided the specific devices and coverage needs fit.

Compare other options if you need 6 GHz, several wired LAN ports, multi-gig wired LAN, or broad coverage from one router. The RT-BE58 Go’s 2.5 Gbps port is WAN; the sole LAN port is limited to 1 Gbps.
