The ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 is a feature-rich quad-band Wi-Fi 7 router with two 10G ports and four 2.5G ports. ASUS advertises up to 25 Gbps of combined wireless capacity, while its product page reproduces a CHIP test result of 3,793 Mbps. That reported result is not a speed guarantee: the available citation does not identify the test client, distance, direction, environment, or method.

For buyers, the central question is whether compatible devices, multi-gigabit internet, and a suitable home network can make use of the GT-BE98’s capabilities—and whether its high cost makes sense against a less expensive Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 6E, or Wi-Fi 6 router.

What is the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98?

The GT-BE98 is ASUS’s premium quad-band 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) gaming router. Its four bands are 2.4 GHz, two separate 5 GHz bands, and 6 GHz. ASUS specifies a quad-core 2.6 GHz CPU, eight external antennas, and sixteen internal dipole antenna elements. The antenna count and design are manufacturer specifications, not evidence of a measured coverage area for a particular home. ASUS’s product page lists the specifications and features.

ASUS advertises up to 25 Gbps in combined wireless capacity, with support for 320 MHz channels in 6 GHz and 4096-QAM. The 25 Gbps figure is an aggregate rating across bands, not a speed one client should expect to receive. TechRadar lists 24.4 Gbps as aggregate speed in its roundup specifications; that, too, is not a single-device benchmark. TechRadar’s roundup describes the router’s tested performance as very fast but does not provide a throughput result or testing setup in the available excerpt.

What does the 3.793 Gbps result actually show?

ASUS reproduces a CHIP statement reporting a measured result of 3,793 Mbps for an ASUS quad-band gaming router. The surfaced citation does not establish the test year or disclose the client device, distance, test direction, environment, or methodology. Treat 3,793 Mbps as a reported CHIP result quoted by ASUS—not as an independently reproduced result here, a guaranteed speed, or a typical speed for every client. ASUS’s product page carries the reproduced result.

The apparent gap between that figure and the router’s 25 Gbps advertised capacity is not a like-for-like comparison. One is a reported test result whose conditions are not established in the available citation; the other is a manufacturer’s combined, multi-band capacity rating. Neither figure alone predicts what a particular device will achieve in a particular home.

Will Wi-Fi 7 features work with your devices?

To use Wi-Fi 7 features, the router and client device must support them, and the operating system must support the relevant functions. A Wi-Fi 6 or older client can connect, but it will not gain Wi-Fi 7-only capabilities simply by connecting to this router. ASUS also cautions that 320 MHz channels in 6 GHz may be unavailable in some regions because of regulation. Whether a 6 GHz network name appears can depend on the operating system and device support. Check the capabilities of the devices you actually use and the rules that apply where you live before paying for features you may not be able to use.

How do the ports and gaming features fit a home network?

The GT-BE98 has dual 10G ports and four 2.5G ports. ASUS identifies one 10G LAN port as dedicated for gaming and lists multiple WAN options, including triple-WAN capability. These connections give a buyer options for a multi-gigabit broadband connection and wired equipment, but the useful layout depends on which port is used for WAN and what needs a wired connection. Check the router’s port allocation against your modem or internet handoff, wired PCs, switches, and other network equipment before purchase.

ASUS also lists Mobile Game Mode, Game Acceleration, AiMesh, VPN features, and AiProtection Pro. Those are feature offerings, not proof that the router will lower latency or improve game outcomes in a given connection. A gaming-priority feature cannot make an internet plan or a remote game server faster than its own limits allow.

Is the GT-BE98 worth buying?

It is most compelling for a buyer who can use several of its strengths together: Wi-Fi 7-capable clients, access to the 6 GHz band where permitted, multi-gigabit wired or internet connections, and a need for flexible high-speed ports. The premium price and still-early Wi-Fi 7 device support are meaningful drawbacks; TechRadar flags both, while characterizing its tested performance as very fast. Its roundup excerpt does not give the underlying throughput figures or test conditions. TechRadar’s roundup provides that assessment.

If most household devices are older, broadband is well below multi-gigabit speeds, or the home’s coverage needs are the main concern, a less expensive Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 6E, or Wi-Fi 6 router may be a better-value choice. The available product specifications and review excerpt do not establish a controlled coverage comparison for the GT-BE98, so do not choose it on an assumed range advantage. Compare current price and support needs with the alternatives available in your region.

Firmware and support

ASUS provides model-specific downloads on its GT-BE98 support page. ASUS says normal firmware upgrades are performed through the router’s web interface; its Firmware Restoration utility is intended for a router that failed during a firmware upgrade. That distinction matters: restoration is a recovery tool, not the ordinary upgrade route.

Background and model identification

ASUS announced the GT-BE98 at CES on January 4, 2023, describing it at the time as the world’s first quad-band Wi-Fi 7 gaming router. The ASUS Pressroom announcement is dated January 4, 2023. When checking listings or support materials, confirm the exact model: GT-BE98 and GT-BE98 Pro are different model names, so do not assume their specifications are interchangeable.
