The Asus Googlebook 14 pairs an unusually light 14-inch chassis with a high-resolution OLED touchscreen and a generous selection of ports. Its hardware makes a strong first impression, but Googlebook OS is new enough that app compatibility, battery life, and sustained performance still need more real-world scrutiny. It is best viewed as a promising premium laptop—not yet a proven fit for every Chromebook user.
What is the Asus Googlebook 14?
The Asus Googlebook 14, model CX9406CAA, is a laptop running Googlebook OS. It is not simply a conventional Chromebook: current coverage describes the new operating system as combining Android technology with ChromeOS desktop foundations. That distinction matters most for people whose work depends on specific apps or browser extensions.
ASUS’s US specification page lists a configuration with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor, 16GB of onboard LPDDR5X memory, 256GB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage, a 14-inch 2880 x 1800 OLED touchscreen, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and a 70Wh battery. The exact configuration differs by source and market, so confirm the model number and specifications on the local listing before buying.

Lightweight construction
ASUS lists a starting weight of 0.99kg (2.18lb) and a thickness as low as 10.9mm. The company says the chassis uses CNC-machined magnesium-aluminum alloy with Nano Ceramic Technology. Tom’s Guide and MobileSyrup described the laptop as light and sturdy in early event impressions, but those impressions are not independent durability testing.

High-resolution OLED touchscreen
The 14-inch panel has a 2880 x 1800 resolution. ASUS’s launch materials list a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1000 nits peak HDR brightness, while the US specification page lists 450 nits and anti-glare glass. Peak HDR brightness and a separate stated brightness figure are not interchangeable, and the discrepancy may reflect different measurement contexts or SKU details. Check the specifications for the exact model you are considering.
Tom’s Guide described the display as colorful and found the anti-glare treatment helpful under event lighting, while noting that more hands-on time and lab testing were needed. That is an encouraging early impression, not a completed assessment of brightness, reflections, or image quality.

The Gadgeteer’s early use praised the touchpad and speakers, but its report was not a comprehensive comparative test.

How promising is Googlebook OS?
Early reports suggest that everyday apps and many Chrome extensions worked in The Gadgeteer’s use, but the publication also encountered a ChatGPT extension that did not behave as expected. MobileSyrup likewise characterized its software assessment as preliminary and said it was too early to determine whether the OS helps or hinders. These accounts do not establish compatibility across the broader app and extension catalog.

ASUS has announced phone-to-laptop continuity, the ability to cast supported Android phone apps, and Gemini features including Magic Pointer and proactive suggestions. Treat these as announced capabilities, not guarantees for every phone, region, or workflow; support and behavior may vary.
If you are considering a move from a Chromebook, test your essential apps and extensions on Googlebook OS before relying on the laptop for work or school. Googlebook OS and ChromeOS share some foundations, but the available early coverage does not show that every Chromebook app or extension behaves identically on the new system.

What do we know about battery life and performance?
ASUS claims up to 18 hours of battery life from the 70Wh battery. That is a manufacturer figure, not an independently verified result. The early hands-on reports do not establish real-world endurance; The Gadgeteer specifically said battery life and sustained performance needed more time. There is no relevant independent benchmark or completed battery test in the available coverage to support a reliable comparison with competing laptops.
How much does the Asus Googlebook 14 cost?
| Market or source | Reported price and availability |
|---|---|
| United States, ASUS Store | $1,299.99; the ASUS page showed pre-order status at the time reviewed. |
| United States, Tom’s Guide | $1,299 starting price. |
| Canada, MobileSyrup | C$1,799 starting price, reported as available October 5, 2026. |
These are launch-era figures, not a guarantee of today’s price or stock. Check the current local listing, and verify the configuration as well as the price: ASUS’s launch release describes options up to Core Ultra 7, 64GB of memory, and 1TB of storage; its US specification page lists Core Ultra 5, 16GB, and 256GB. The Gadgeteer’s review unit had 16GB and 512GB.
Is the Asus Googlebook 14 worth it?
It is an interesting option if low weight, a sharp OLED touchscreen, and built-in port variety are high priorities. Its combination of a 0.99kg starting weight and a 14-inch 3K screen is the clearest hardware draw in the available specifications, while early hands-on impressions are positive about the chassis, touchpad, and speakers.
The bigger question is whether Googlebook OS supports your actual workflow. At a premium launch price, it is sensible to confirm that your critical apps, extensions, and Android-phone features work as you expect before committing. Battery endurance and sustained performance also remain open questions until testing establishes how the laptop behaves beyond early hands-on use.
Quick Recap
What to compare before you buy
- Exact configuration: Check processor, memory, storage, and model number for the specific regional SKU.
- Display details: Confirm refresh rate, stated brightness, and anti-glare treatment for that configuration.
- Essential software: Verify your required apps and extensions on Googlebook OS rather than assuming Chromebook compatibility.
- Phone integration: Check whether your Android phone and region support the announced continuity and Gemini features you want.
- Price and stock: Compare current local listings; launch-era prices and pre-order status can change.
- Battery expectations: Do not treat ASUS’s up-to-18-hour claim as independently measured endurance.
