The ASUS ExpertBook CX54 Chromebook Plus is a premium 14-inch business Chromebook with a sharp 2560 × 1600 display, unusually useful port selection, and configurations reaching Intel Core Ultra 7, 16GB of memory, and a 512GB SSD. In ITPro’s review of a Core Ultra 7 155U model, it delivered 10 hours 39 minutes of battery life and earned praise for performance, screen quality, connectivity, and input devices. Its main trade-offs are its price by Chromebook standards and a chassis that is not as thin or light as some premium rivals.
What is the ASUS ExpertBook CX54 Chromebook Plus?
The CX54, also identified by its CX5403 model family, is ASUS’s first Expert-series Chromebook Plus. ASUS announced it on December 14, 2023. It is aimed at people who want a well-equipped ChromeOS laptop for office work, remote work, and managed business deployments—not simply the least expensive way to run ChromeOS.
Its appeal rests on the combination of a high-resolution 16:10 screen, current Intel processors, generous connectivity, and business-management options. The exact specification depends on the CX5403 configuration sold, so the family’s maximum specifications should not be assumed to describe every retail unit.

How good is the CX54 for everyday work?
ITPro’s hands-on review found the Core Ultra 7 configuration fast and praised its integrated Arc graphics and NPU alongside its display and input devices. Those observations support a strong case for multitasking, browser-based office work, video calls, and general productivity. They do not establish a benchmark result for every configuration or guarantee performance in sustained, specialist workloads.
The 14-inch 2560 × 1600 panel gives more vertical workspace than a conventional 16:9 screen at the same diagonal size. ITPro described its reviewed display as sharp and vivid. For a buyer who spends most of the day reading documents, working in spreadsheets, or switching among web apps, the screen is one of the CX54’s most persuasive features.

The laptop’s port selection also reduces reliance on dongles. ASUS lists two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, HDMI 2.1, USB-A, microSD, and a headphone/audio jack, with support for up to three 4K external displays. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 round out the connectivity options. Check the specific model’s product listing if a particular port or multi-display setup is essential.
How long does the CX54 battery last?
ITPro measured 10 hours 39 minutes on its reviewed Core Ultra 7 155U configuration. This is a review result for that unit under ITPro’s test conditions, not an ASUS guarantee or a promise of the same runtime in every workload. Screen brightness, video calls, connected displays, wireless use, and demanding apps can affect real-world battery life.

Is the CX54 suitable for business and remote work?
ASUS positions the CX54 for business use, and the hardware supports that role: a high-resolution screen, 8MP camera, Wi-Fi 6E, and ports for peripherals and external displays. ASUS says the camera supports HDRnet and AI video-call tools. For remote work, the practical value will depend on whether the exact configuration has the display option you want and whether its runtime fits your schedule.

Security and durability claims
ASUS says the CX54 includes a fingerprint sensor and Google-designed Titan C2 security chip. ASUS also states that it performs panel-pressure, shock, and drop testing, and that the product meets US MIL-STD 810H standards. These are manufacturer claims, not independent lab findings reported by ITPro.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What are the CX54’s main drawbacks?
ITPro’s principal reservations were price and portability relative to the thinnest premium competitors. The reviewer considered it expensive by Chromebook standards and noted that the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus is thinner and lighter. ASUS lists the CX54 at 1.3 kg and 1.69 cm thick; whether that is a meaningful compromise depends on how often you carry it and what you value more: a sturdy-feeling aluminum chassis and broad connectivity or the slimmest possible device.
Price and stock are volatile. ASUS USA’s store search result showed a $999.99 starting price when accessed in 2026, but that figure may change and should not be treated as a current offer. Check the price, availability, and warranty for the exact model and seller before buying.
Is the ASUS ExpertBook CX54 Chromebook Plus worth buying?
The CX54 is worth considering if you want a premium business Chromebook with a high-resolution display, strong ports, and a reviewed Core Ultra 7 configuration that performed well in ITPro’s hands-on assessment. It is a less obvious choice if your top priorities are the lowest possible Chromebook price or the lightest chassis.
Before purchase, compare the full CX5403 suffix and confirm the processor, RAM, SSD, touchscreen status, seller warranty, and price. Two listings under the CX54 name may not represent identical configurations, and a lower price is only a meaningful comparison when the specifications and warranty terms match.
Quick Recap
How to compare CX54 listings before buying
- Identify the full model designation. Record the CX5403 suffix and seller’s exact SKU; do not rely only on the general CX54 name.
- Check processor, memory, and storage. Confirm the installed CPU, RAM, and SSD rather than assuming the ASUS platform maximums apply.
- Verify the display option. Check whether the panel is touch-enabled, and compare the resolution and stated brightness when the listing provides them.
- Review warranty and seller terms. Confirm coverage for your region, return conditions, and whether the seller is authorized if that matters to your organization.
- Compare the actual offer. Check current stock and price for the same configuration; promotions and availability can change.
