In July 2009, ASUS’s Eee PC Seashell lineup included the 1008HA, 1005HA and 1101HA. The clearest confirmed country-specific date is Japan’s July 11 release of the 1008HA; ASUS announced the 1005HA and 1101HA on July 14, but that announcement does not establish when each model reached stores across Asia.
Which ASUS Eee PCs were new in July 2009?
The best-supported models in the July 2009 Seashell cycle are the Eee PC 1008HA, 1005HA and 1101HA. Their launch information points to different kinds of evidence: a specific Japanese release date for the 1008HA and a Taiwan-datelined ASUS announcement for the other two.
Eee PC 1008HA: Japan release on July 11
PC Watch reported that the 1008HA would launch in Japan on July 11, 2009, with an expected price of ¥49,800. Its published configuration was an Intel Atom N280 processor at 1.66 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, a 160 GB hard drive, a 10.1-inch display with 1,024 × 600 resolution, and Windows XP Home. The date and expected price are specific to the Japanese launch; they do not confirm availability in other Asian countries. PC Watch’s launch report.

ASUS issued an announcement dated July 14, 2009, introducing the 1005HA and 1101HA Seashell netbooks. The release gives the 1005HA a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display and the 1101HA an 11.6-inch LED-backlit display. Its date confirms the announcement, not a country-by-country retail shipping schedule. The screen size is the clearest distinction between the 1005HA and 1101HA: 10.1 inches versus 11.6 inches. The larger panel gives the 1101HA more screen area, while the 1005HA is the smaller-screen option. ASUS’s published battery figures—10.5 hours for the 1005HA and 11 hours for the 1101HA—are manufacturer claims from 2009, not independent test results. They should not be treated as a direct comparison under identical real-world conditions.
What “shipping in Asia” does—and does not—confirm
The July evidence does not establish one Asia-wide shipping date or show that all three models reached stores in every Asian market at the same time. The 1008HA has an explicit Japanese date. ASUS’s July 14 announcement for the other two is Taiwan-datelined, but a dateline alone does not prove retail availability across Taiwan or elsewhere. Country-level launch dates beyond the Japan report are not established by these sources.

Can you still buy an Eee PC Seashell?
These are 2009 netbooks, so any purchase today should be assessed as a vintage or used-computer purchase rather than assumed new retail stock. The July launch records do not establish current listings or availability. Before buying one, check the individual listing and seller carefully.

- Condition: Ask whether the computer boots, whether the screen and keyboard work, and whether the charger is included.
