The ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3 is a capable tablet-first Chromebook for web browsing, streaming, notes and light schoolwork. Its strongest upgrades over the Lenovo Duet formula are a stand that works in portrait or landscape, an included USI stylus stored in the tablet, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The trade-off is modest performance: its MediaTek MT8183 processor and fixed 4GB of RAM are not suited to demanding multitasking.

What the ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3 offers

The CM3000 is a 10.5-inch ChromeOS tablet that becomes a small laptop when you attach its magnetic keyboard and stand cover. The tablet has a Mineral Grey aluminium body; the cover is stain-resistant, and the keyboard connects using magnets and pogo pins. Remove the accessories and it is a compact tablet for reading, browsing or watching video.

Unlike a conventional kickstand that works in only one direction, the CM3’s flex-angle stand supports both portrait and landscape orientations. Portrait is handy for reading, recipes or chat, while landscape suits video and laptop-style use. ASUS describes the keyboard as full-size and lists 1.5 mm of key travel. Those features improve its versatility, but the small detachable format remains a compromise compared with a larger laptop for extended typing.

Specifications and included accessories

Item CM3000 details
Display 10.5-inch touchscreen, 1,920 × 1,200 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio
Processor MediaTek MT8183 octa-core
Memory 4GB RAM
Storage 64GB or 128GB eMMC
Input and audio Included garaged USI stylus; 3.5mm headphone jack; dual five-magnet stereo speakers
Cameras 2MP front camera and 8MP rear camera

The included USI pen stores in a garage in the tablet, so it is less likely to get lost than a loose accessory. ASUS says 15 seconds of charging provides 45 minutes of use. It is useful for handwritten notes and basic sketching; Laptop Mag did not consider it a professional digital-art tool. The stereo speakers are loud and clear for video, though bass is limited. The rear camera can help scan documents, but it is not a substitute for a modern phone camera.

Performance: good for everyday ChromeOS use, not heavy workloads

The MT8183 and 4GB of RAM are adequate for casual browsing, streaming and light productivity, but they leave limited headroom for demanding work. In Laptop Mag’s Geekbench 5 test, the CM3 scored 1,412, compared with that publication’s Chromebook average of 2,590. In Jetstream 2 it scored 33.2, versus an average of 101.1. Laptop Mag found it acceptable for casual browsing and content consumption, but weak for demanding workloads.

In one Laptop Mag workload, the reviewer opened about 24 Chrome tabs alongside 1080p YouTube and Google Docs. Pages could take a few beats to load, but the reviewer did not see stutter once apps were open. That result illustrates the distinction: the CM3 can handle a fairly busy everyday session, but opening and switching between heavier tasks is not as quick as on stronger hardware. ChromeOS and Android apps cover common web work and entertainment; check that any specialized software you rely on is compatible before buying.

Battery life: close to ASUS’s claim in a controlled test

Laptop Mag recorded 11 hours and 41 minutes in its Wi-Fi web-surfing test at 150 nits. That was above the publication’s Chromebook average of 9 hours and 55 minutes, and below the Lenovo Duet’s 12 hours and 46 minutes in the same test. ASUS claims up to 12 hours. The measured result is strong for this class, but real-world runtime varies with screen brightness, workload, wireless use and other settings. The test result is not a guarantee of a full day under every pattern of use.

Is the CM3 better than the Lenovo Duet?

The CM3 improves on the Duet-style detachable idea rather than winning every category. Its clearest advantages are the portrait-or-landscape stand, the included stylus with onboard storage, and the headphone jack. The Duet lasted longer in Laptop Mag’s cited battery test. Price and performance can also favor competing detachables, depending on the exact model and local market.

What matters CM3 Lenovo Duet comparison
Stand orientation Stand supports portrait and landscape. Specific orientation capability is not stated in the cited comparison sources.
Pen USI stylus included and stored in the tablet. Specific included-pen details are not stated in the cited comparison sources.
Headphone connection 3.5mm audio jack. Specific port comparison is not stated in the cited comparison sources.
Battery test 11:41 in Laptop Mag’s Wi-Fi web test at 150 nits. 12:46 in Laptop Mag’s same test.
Performance MT8183 processor and 4GB RAM; modest headroom. Exact model and comparable benchmark values are not established here.

For the Duet battery result and CM3 comparisons, see Laptop Mag’s review. The battery figures are comparable within that publication’s test, not a promise of how either device will last for every user.

Can the CM3 replace a laptop?

It can replace a basic laptop for someone whose work mostly happens in a browser: students writing documents, commuters handling email, or households using a shared device for streaming and light tasks. The detachable design also makes it more convenient to use as a tablet than a conventional laptop.

It is a poor fit if your routine involves development tools, heavy Android games, sustained creative workloads, or many demanding apps open at once. The 4GB memory limit and modest processor are the key constraints; the keyboard’s compact size is another practical compromise for long typing sessions.

  • DESIGN FOR: 2 Pack Tempered Glass Screen Protector For ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3 10.5" Touchscreen 16:10 Display Tablet, 9H, Tempered Glass Screen Film Guard
  • Screen protection: Tempered film can effectively protect electronic screens from scratches and damage. In daily use, the screen is prone to friction with hard objects such as keys and coins, causing scratches and affecting the effectiveness of use. Tempered film can cover the entire screen, prevent external damage, and extend the lifespan of the screen.
  • Explosion proof: Tempered film has high hardness, low toughness, a sufficiently hard surface, scratch resistance, and can effectively resist impact forces. When subjected to large impact forces, tempered film will automatically break into small particles, avoiding screen breakage and reducing the risk of screen breakage.
  • Improving Appearance: Tempered film has high transparency and does not affect the display effect of the screen, making the electronic screen clearer, more natural and beautiful, and enhancing the user's visual experience.
  • Water And Oil Resistant, And Fingerprint Resistant:The screen protector has an ultra-thin oleophobic layer on the surface, giving it fingerprint and water resistance. Keeps your device free from fingerprints, cracks, dust, daily wear and tear, and scratches.

Is the CM3000 still worth buying?

Laptop Mag listed launch prices of $329 for the 64GB version and $389 for the 128GB version. Its reviewer considered the 128GB model expensive for the performance and called the base model the better value. Those are historical launch prices, not confirmed current prices: CM3000 stock and pricing in 2026 depend on retailer, region and condition, so check the current listing before deciding.

At a price near its launch level, the 64GB configuration is the more sensible value target for buyers who mainly use cloud services and web apps. The 128GB version makes sense only if the additional local storage is useful enough to justify the premium. Avoid paying a high price for either configuration when newer or more capable alternatives are available in your market.

Who should buy the ASUS Chromebook Detachable CM3?

  • Consider it for school, casual home use, commuting and media when tablet flexibility, long battery life, an included pen and a headphone jack matter.
  • Look elsewhere if you need strong multitasking performance, specialized desktop software, heavy gaming or a comfortable full-time typing setup.
  • Check before ordering the exact storage configuration, seller, regional availability and current price; the launch price is not a current offer.
