Marco Bizot returned to Aston Villa’s starting lineup for a friendly against Sevilla on 2 October 2026, after a back problem had forced him off at halftime against Coventry City and kept him out against Tottenham. That confirms a return to match action, but it does not establish how long he played or whether he was ready for Villa’s next competitive fixture.
What happened to Marco Bizot?
Bizot went off at halftime during Aston Villa’s Carabao Cup win over Coventry City because of a back problem, then missed the team’s match against Tottenham, according to RotoWire’s 2 October 2026 report. The report does not give an injury-duration estimate or include a direct comment from Bizot about the issue.
Did Bizot return against Sevilla?
Yes. RotoWire reported on 2 October 2026 that Bizot was named in Villa’s starting lineup for a friendly against Sevilla. The report confirms that he returned to a starting lineup and match action; it does not say how many minutes he played, describe his performance, or confirm that he completed the match.

The Premier League’s injury tracker, last updated on 2 October 2026, showed no current injury label for Bizot under Aston Villa. That is a dated tracker entry, not a medical diagnosis or confirmation of his fitness for a later competitive match.

What is known about his next competitive appearance?
The available updates do not establish whether Bizot was cleared for Villa’s next competitive fixture or whether he would start it. His Sevilla friendly selection and the Premier League tracker’s status provide a snapshot as of 2 October, not a forecast of his subsequent availability.
Bizot’s Villa role
UEFA’s 2026–27 Champions League profile lists Bizot as Aston Villa’s number 40 and a goalkeeper. LaLiga’s 2026–27 player profile records one appearance and 90 minutes, but does not identify the match; those figures therefore cannot be used to infer how long he played against Sevilla.

What Villa had said before the return
A secondary tracker, Premier Injuries, attributed this remark to manager Unai Emery on 16 September: “Marco felt pain in his back. We decided to change him, and hopefully it’s not a big injury.” The remark is attributed to Emery by that tracker; it is not a primary Aston Villa transcript of the injury update.

In a separate official interview published on 25 May 2026, Bizot reflected on joining Villa: “I joined this club at the right moment, at the right time, and what I’ve experienced this year is absolutely unbelievable.” The interview provides background on his time at the club, not an update on his back issue or October return.
