Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood comes after Assassin’s Creed II and before Assassin’s Creed Revelations. For a first playthrough, play those three games in that order: it follows Ezio Auditore’s story and preserves the connected modern-day plot’s progression.
Where Brotherhood fits in the Ezio trilogy

Ubisoft groups these three games in The Ezio Collection, which includes their single-player campaigns and add-on content, as well as the short films Lineage and Embers. Ubisoft describes the collection as Ezio’s “complete life story.”
What happens in Brotherhood?
After the events of Assassin’s Creed II, Ezio’s story moves to Rome. Ubisoft describes him as venturing there to bring the fight to the Templar order; the game follows his rise to leadership of the Assassin Brotherhood. The cited chronology guide places its events around 1499–1507, but that span is a guide’s chronology, not a claim that every mission unfolds in one uninterrupted stretch.
Which order should you use?
For a first playthrough
Follow release and narrative continuity: start with the original Assassin’s Creed, then play Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, Revelations, and Assassin’s Creed III. This keeps the early modern-day framing plot in sequence while preserving Ezio’s character arc.

If you mean historical setting order
Historical setting order sorts games by the eras of their ancestral memories. It is a different way to organize the series, and it does not automatically preserve the modern-day plot’s progression. A 2025 RadioTimes chronology guide presents historical-setting order separately from modern-day story order; its date spans are a secondary guide’s chronology rather than an official Ubisoft declaration.
Should you get Brotherhood alone or the collection?
If you want to follow Ezio’s complete three-game arc, the collection is the relevant grouping. If you only want the Rome chapter, Ubisoft also has a standalone Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood page.
