The ASRock X870 LiveMixer WiFi can connect up to 25 USB devices across the rear I/O and internal headers, but only 16 ports are on the rear panel. That unusually large total can suit a creator build with several cameras, capture devices, audio gear, storage drives, and other peripherals—provided you plan around the ports’ different speeds and a key USB4/M.2 bandwidth trade-off.
How many USB ports does the X870 LiveMixer actually have?
ASRock advertises 25 USB ports in total. The figure includes rear-panel connections plus ports made available through the motherboard’s internal headers and compatible case front-panel connectors; it does not mean 25 sockets are mounted on the rear of the board. ASRock’s product specifications give the advertised total, while its user manual lists 16 rear ports. Tom’s Hardware also distinguishes the 16 rear ports from the maximum 25 with headers connected in its review.
| Rear connection | Count | Published interface |
|---|---|---|
| USB Type-C | 2 | USB4, up to 40 Gb/s each |
| USB Type-C | 1 | USB 3.2 Gen1 |
| USB Type-A | 7 | USB 3.2 Gen1 |
| USB Type-A | 6 | USB 2.0 |
| Total rear USB ports | 16 | Mixed types and speeds |
The other connections needed to reach 25 depend on internal headers and the case’s front-panel ports. Check the manual’s header details and your case’s front-panel connectors before treating 25 as the number of devices your particular build can plug in directly. Also match high-bandwidth devices to faster ports: USB 2.0, USB 3.2 Gen1, and USB4 are not interchangeable in speed.
Does that make it a good motherboard for content creators?
It can be a practical fit when the build genuinely needs many simultaneous USB connections. A workstation with capture hardware, cameras, microphones or audio interfaces, external drives, control surfaces, and ordinary peripherals may benefit from having more connections available without relying on several external hubs. ASRock says it tested video capture devices with different interfaces to target creator systems, but provides no protocol or comparative results on the cited product page; that statement is the manufacturer’s claim, not independent proof of workload performance.

The port count alone does not establish faster editing, streaming, or rendering. ASRock’s specifications describe the board’s hardware rather than benchmark results, and a creator’s experience will also depend on the processor, graphics, storage, memory, and the bandwidth demands of connected devices. A buyer comparing boards should consider rear versus total USB count, connector mix and generation, USB4 support, M.2 capacity and lane sharing, networking, expansion slots, CPU compatibility, and current price—not just the headline number.
What should you know about USB4 and M.2 sharing?
The two rear USB4 Type-C ports are rated up to 40 Gb/s, but their operation is linked to the second M.2 socket, M2_2. According to ASRock’s manual, installing a drive in M2_2 makes both rear USB4 ports and that M.2 socket operate at x2. If BIOS is set to run M2_2 at x4, both USB4 ports are disabled. This is a material build-planning trade-off if you want both a fast secondary NVMe drive and full USB4 connectivity.

- Thermals: VRM and M.2 Thermal Guard
- Connectivity: PCIe 5.0, 4x M.2 Slots, Dual USB4, Front and Rear USB-C, Sensor Panel Link
USB4 behavior can also vary with the processor. ASRock’s manual says USB4 operates at Gen4x2 with Ryzen 8000 Phoenix 2 processors. Check the CPU-specific bandwidth table in the manual before selecting a processor or planning storage and USB4 use; do not assume every supported CPU exposes identical behavior.
What else does the X870 LiveMixer WiFi offer?
The X870 LiveMixer WiFi is an ATX motherboard for AMD Socket AM5. ASRock lists support for Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 Series processors, but says expansion-slot availability can vary by CPU. The board’s other headline specifications include four DDR5 DIMM slots with a stated maximum capacity of 256 GB, two PCIe 5.0 M.2 sockets, two PCIe 4.0 M.2 sockets, and two SATA3 connectors. Memory speed depends on the processor, memory kit, and overclocking configuration.

- Expansion: one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot and two auxiliary PCIe x4 slots, according to ASRock.
- Networking: 5G Ethernet and a Wi-Fi 7 module, plus Bluetooth 5.4 listed in the manual. The 5G LAN rating describes the network interface, not the speed of your internet service.
- Rear I/O beyond USB: HDMI, optical S/PDIF, audio jacks, two Wi-Fi antenna connectors, and a BIOS Flashback button.
- Power design: ASRock specifies a 16+2+1 phase design with 80A Dr.MOS for the VCore, SoC, and miscellaneous rails. This is a manufacturer specification, not a guarantee of a particular workload result.
Which Ryzen CPUs and operating systems are supported?
ASRock lists Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 Series support for the AM5 board. That family-level compatibility does not mean every processor offers the same PCIe lanes, USB4 mode, or M.2 behavior; consult the manual’s CPU-specific tables for the exact chip under consideration.
The manual states that Wi-Fi 7 is supported only on Windows 11 and that no Windows 10 Wi-Fi 7 driver is available. It also notes that 6 GHz availability depends on regional regulations and subsequent updates. Do not assume 6 GHz Wi-Fi is available in every country or configuration.
Is 25 USB ports the right reason to choose this board?
It is a meaningful advantage if your build has many wired peripherals and you value a large mix of rear and case-front connections. Before buying, count your devices, identify which need USB4 or other high-speed connections, check that your case exposes the relevant front-panel headers, and decide whether an M2_2 drive or both rear USB4 ports matter more to your setup. If you need still more ports or a different placement, a powered USB hub or PCIe USB expansion card may be an alternative, but match it to device bandwidth, available expansion slots, and case clearance.
