The BBC reported on 8 October 2026 that ASOS customers were told hackers had taken detailed customer profiles, beyond the names and contact details mentioned in the retailer’s initial notice. ASOS said passwords and bank details were not accessed, but the full scope and number of affected customers remain unknown. If you received the unauthorised app notification, ASOS’s instruction was to ignore it and not click its external link.
What information did the BBC report was taken?
In its 8 October 2026 report, the BBC said ASOS had emailed customers to say that profiles had been taken. The reported fields included names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, customer numbers, dates of birth and website search terms. The BBC said ASOS told customers that passwords and bank details were not accessed. BBC reporting
This was more detail than ASOS’s earlier public notice, which said names and contact details may have been accessed and that the company did not believe payment-card information or account passwords had been impacted. That wording describes ASOS’s assessment at the time; it is not proof that every possible risk has been ruled out. ASOS customer notice
What happened, and how did access reportedly occur?
ASOS said some customers received an unauthorised push notification through its app system on 6 October 2026. The notice directed recipients to an external third-party link. ASOS said it restricted access to its notification platforms, involved specialist advisers and relevant authorities, and was investigating. ASOS customer notice

According to the BBC, ASOS described an attacker impersonating a trusted contact to obtain an employee’s login credentials. The attacker then used access to an unnamed service to download customer data. The reporting does not establish that the retailer’s main platform or any named cloud service was breached.
The attackers’ notification claimed they had compromised a Snowflake instance, and they told the BBC they had used Simon AI. Those are attacker claims, not confirmed technical findings. The BBC reported that Snowflake had previously said its platform was not breached. BBC reporting

The UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) advises people to avoid links in unexpected messages, sign in through the official service if they want to change a password, monitor bank accounts and online services for unusual activity, and never share personal or financial information in response to unexpected contact. Paul Arnold, the ICO’s chief executive, said: “We would encourage anyone who receives a message of this nature to stay alert.” ICO advice
Review account security at your own pace
The ICO recommends strong, unique passwords and multi-factor authentication (MFA) as general security measures. If you decide to change a password, go directly to the service’s official website or app; do not use a link in an unexpected message. The ICO has not established that ASOS supports a particular MFA method, so check the service’s own security settings before relying on one. ICO online security advice
