The ASICS YOGIRI SPEED is a carbon-plated road shoe positioned for runners aiming to finish a marathon in under four hours. Its dual-layer foam, lightweight plate and listed 227 g weight make it a plausible option for that goal, but the sub-four-hour target is ASICS’ intended audience—not a performance promise. RTINGS’ September 2026 review describes a cushioned, less aggressive alternative to more streamlined super shoes; there is not enough comparable evidence here to rank it against competing models.
Who is the YOGIRI SPEED for?
ASICS Japan describes the YOGIRI SPEED as an update to the S4+ YOGIRI, developed for runners targeting a sub-four-hour full marathon. The name reflects the company’s stated wish that wearers achieve that goal. This is product positioning, not a guarantee that the shoe will produce a particular finish time. ASICS’ US page labels the goal “Faster” and says the shoe is designed to support racing goals.
The intended runner is therefore someone seeking a plated marathon shoe without the explicitly more aggressive character that RTINGS associates with shoes aimed at breaking three hours. That distinction is useful as a starting point, not a substitute for trying the shoe: the available evidence does not establish an individual fit or pace recommendation.

What is the shoe made of?
Plate and midsole
ASICS describes a full-length carbon plate, with its heel section changed to a forked shape compared with the prior concept. The midsole stacks FF LEAP foam above FF BLAST PLUS. The company presents the plate geometry and outsole structure as supporting stability and forward propulsion, and the foam as cushioning. Those are design intentions; they do not independently prove a particular running benefit.
#1 Best Overall
- FuelCell midsole foam with approximately 3% bio-based content delivers a propulsive feel to help drive you forward. Bio-based content is made from renewable resources to help reduce our carbon footprint.
- Energy Arc pairs sport-specific carbon fiber plate geometry with strategic midsole voids, designed to increase stored energy to deliver a higher amount of total energy returned
- Angular midsole design reduces weight
- Outsole designed for superior traction
- 4 mm drop; due to variances created during the development and manufacturing processes, all references to 4 mm drop are approximate
Upper and outsole
The upper is engineered mesh, and the outsole uses ASICSGRIP rubber. ASICS says the outsole contact and structure were revised with stability in mind. The available material does not provide independent traction or durability testing, so these construction details should not be read as evidence of performance on a specific surface or over a particular mileage.
Specifications and measurements
| Specification | Published or measured value |
|---|---|
| Weight | ASICS Japan states approximately 227 g for one shoe in size 27.0 cm. ASICS US lists 227 g / 8 oz. RTINGS reports a measured 227.0 g; its excerpt does not state the tested size. |
| Heel drop | ASICS US lists 5 mm. RTINGS reports a measured heel-to-toe drop of 6.8 mm. These are different source figures and should not be treated as one agreed measurement. |
| Model and width | ASICS Japan lists model 1013A196 in standard width. |
| Japan size range | ASICS Japan lists 22.5–29.0 cm in 0.5 cm increments. |
| Japan recommended retail price | ¥24,200 including tax, according to ASICS Japan’s September 3, 2026 announcement. |
| Stack height | Not stated in the cited ASICS pages or RTINGS review excerpt. |
The weight figures are broadly consistent at 227 g, but their qualifications differ: ASICS Japan specifies a 27.0 cm shoe, while the cited RTINGS excerpt gives a measured value without identifying the sample size. The drop discrepancy is more substantial. ASICS’ 5 mm is a listed specification; RTINGS’ 6.8 mm is its measurement. The sources do not establish why the figures differ.

- The mesh upper offers a comfortable, breathable feel.
- The foam midsole delivers intuitive cushioning through comfort-focused rocker geometry.
- The outsole has an intuitive Nike design and flex grooves in the forefoot that create a comfortable and cushioned effect as you run.
- Touch points at the heel and tongue create a natural feel as you take the shoes on and off.

What does the independent review say?
RTINGS’ review, dated September 28, 2026, describes the YOGIRI SPEED as a cushioned carbon-plated marathon shoe aimed at a more amateur-friendly audience. RTINGS characterizes it as less streamlined and less rigid than more aggressive super shoes, and says it is less efficient for runners trying to break three hours. That is RTINGS’ assessment, not a universal conclusion about every runner or pace.
RTINGS lists the following scores under its methodology v0.16. These are that publication’s ratings, not manufacturer specifications or population-wide findings.
Rank #3
- Engineered mesh upper: Improves breathability
- GUIDESOLE technology: Helps create smooth toe-offs and advanced energy savings
- FF BLAST MAX cushioning: Our most energetic midsole foam is complemented with cloud-like softness and a responsive energy return
- FF BLAST PLUS: One of our lightest and most energetic foams that's formed with at least 20% bio-based material from renewable sources
- OrthoLite X-55 sockliner: Provides soft step-in comfort
| RTINGS category | Score |
|---|---|
| Energy return | 7.2 |
| Stability | 6.5 |
| Cushioning | 8.4 |
| Bounciness | 6.5 |
| Snappiness | 7.1 |
| Roll | 7.8 |
| True to size | 9.3 |
The scores can help explain how RTINGS evaluated the shoe, but they do not tell you whether its feel, fit or ride will suit your own stride. No hands-on wear test was performed for this article, and the cited material does not establish durability, injury outcomes or a universal performance advantage.
What is known about the launch and availability?
ASICS Japan announced online pre-release in Japan for September 10, 2026, followed by ASICS stores and sporting-goods retailers from September 17. The Japanese announcement’s ¥24,200 tax-inclusive recommended retail price and listed size range apply to that market. They do not establish current stock or pricing elsewhere. Check the live ASICS page for your country and confirm size, color, price and return terms before ordering.
Rank #4
- Shoes with Cloudfoam midsole cushioning for comfort and support.
- Regular fit
- Laces
- Textile and synthetic upper
- Ortholite sockliner
How should you compare it with other marathon shoes?
The YOGIRI SPEED’s clearest point of distinction in the cited information is its sub-four-hour target positioning. A fair comparison with another plated shoe would also need comparable evidence for measured weight and sample size, stack and drop, plate geometry and stiffness, cushioning and energy return, stability, traction and durability, fit, and local price. The available evidence does not provide those equivalent measurements for alternatives, so it cannot support naming a comparative winner.

For the S4+ YOGIRI, ASICS establishes that the YOGIRI SPEED is an update under the same concept. The cited announcement does not provide enough comparative test data to quantify how the new model performs differently.
