ASICS SUPERBLAST 2 is a neutral, maximum-cushioning road-running shoe with an 8 mm heel drop and a midsole combining FF TURBO PLUS with FF BLAST PLUS ECO. Its published specs make it a plausible option for runners seeking a highly cushioned shoe for road training, but the foam-performance figures are manufacturer comparisons, not proof of faster times. It is also an earlier generation: T3 reported that SUPERBLAST 3 became available on March 1, 2026, so check current local stock and pricing before choosing the older model.
What the SUPERBLAST 2 is
ASICS classifies the SUPERBLAST 2 as a road shoe with neutral support and maximum cushioning. The 8 mm drop is the difference between heel and forefoot stack height; it is a specification, not a guarantee of how the shoe will feel to an individual runner. The design is aimed at road running rather than being categorized as a trail shoe.
The product page describes a trampoline-inspired outsole design and lists ASICSGRIP. ASICS says ASICSGRIP is designed for off-road terrains, but that claim does not change the shoe’s road-shoe classification. Grip on a particular surface and in particular conditions should not be inferred from the marketing description alone. ASICS UK product listing

Midsole foam and what ASICS’ claims mean
The two-layer midsole uses FF TURBO PLUS and FF BLAST PLUS ECO. ASICS says FF TURBO PLUS is approximately 8% lighter, approximately 6% softer, and has approximately 8.2% more energy return than the previous model’s FF BLAST TURBO foam. Those are ASICS’ foam comparisons; they are not independent measurements of the complete shoe or evidence that runners will run faster, farther, or more efficiently.
#1 Best Overall
- Engineered mesh upper material: Improves airflow to help your feet keep cool
- Gusseted tongue wing fit system: Improves the midfoot fit and reduces tongue sliding
- FF TURBO PLUS technology: Cushioning improves compression and creates a responsive feel underfoot
- FF BLAST PLUS technology: Cushioning provides lightweight impact absorption and a responsive rebound
- Trampoline-inspired outsole design: Provides a more responsive bounce back
ASICS also says FF BLAST PLUS ECO is made with approximately 24% bio-based material. That figure describes the foam material as stated by the manufacturer, not the percentage of the whole shoe that is bio-based. ASICS’ June 26, 2024 launch announcement
Weight, drop and stack height
| Specification | Value | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | 250 g / 8.8 oz | ASICS UK product listing; the page does not explicitly tie this displayed weight to the US men’s size 9 basis. |
| Weight | Approximately 250 g | ASICS’ June 2024 launch announcement, for US men’s size 9. |
| Heel drop | 8 mm | ASICS UK product specification. |
| Heel stack | 42.8 mm | Measurement reported by RunRepeat; this is an independent reviewer measurement, not an official ASICS specification. |
Do not treat the two 250 g listings as a size-independent weight: the launch announcement specifies US men’s size 9, while the UK product page’s displayed figure does not state the same basis. RunRepeat’s 42.8 mm heel-stack figure is likewise a reviewer measurement, rather than a manufacturer-listed specification. RunRepeat’s SUPERBLAST 2 review

Who should consider it
The published category and construction point toward runners looking for a neutral road shoe with substantial cushioning. Its foam setup may also appeal to someone who wants one shoe for varied road sessions, but the available specifications do not establish how it performs for daily runs, long runs, or faster workouts in practice. Individual preferences for cushioning, stability, fit, and ride matter, and the information here does not substitute for a try-on or a runner-specific assessment.
- Potential fit: A runner seeking maximum cushioning and neutral support on roads.
- Check before buying: Whether the shoe’s fit and ride suit your foot and running style; official specs cannot answer that for every runner.
- Do not assume: The foam’s claimed energy-return improvement translates directly into faster race results or better training outcomes.
SUPERBLAST 2 price and generation context
ASICS announced a $200 launch price and a July 5, 2024 availability date. That is historical launch information, not a current price. T3 reported that SUPERBLAST 3 became available on March 1, 2026, making SUPERBLAST 2 an earlier generation as of that report. Current prices, sizes, and stock vary by region and retailer; verify them directly before purchasing. T3’s SUPERBLAST 3 availability report

- Engineered woven upper: Breathable material helps keep your feet dry.

- FF TURBO PLUS cushioning: This midsole foam is extremely lightweight and bouncier than FF TURBO, designed for even more advanced cushioning and energy return during your run.
- FF BLAST PLUS cushioning: Midsole foam that provides a blend of cloud like cushioning and a responsive ride that is lighter than FF BLAST.
- ASICSGRIP outsole rubber: ASICS proprietary outsole that provides advanced grip on a variety of terrain.
Verdict
On the evidence available, SUPERBLAST 2 is best understood as a neutral, maximum-cushioning road shoe with a dual-foam midsole, an 8 mm drop, and manufacturer-described ASICSGRIP. Its clearest strengths on paper are the combination of cushioning-focused category and two foam technologies; the evidence does not independently establish a performance advantage for runners. Because it is no longer the newest generation and its 2024 launch price is not a current quote, whether it is worth buying depends on its present local price, availability, and whether the fit suits you.
