Ankush Panghal won the men’s 80 kg boxing gold at the Asian Games on his debut, defeating South Korea’s Kim Min-seong in the final by a reported 4-0 decision. Contemporary coverage identified Panghal as 21 and from Hisar district, Haryana.
How Panghal won the Asian Games final
Panghal faced South Korea’s Kim Min-seong in the men’s 80 kg final and won by a reported 4-0 decision, according to Hindustan Times and The Tribune. The Indian Express describes the result as a “split 4-0.” The reports agree on the winner, opponent and result, but do not provide a full official score breakdown; no round-by-round judges’ scores are established here.
Hindustan Times described Panghal as an attacking boxer who moved well, landed precise punches and maintained his guard under pressure, using fast hands and a strong right. Those are the publication’s observations of the bout, not independently measured performance statistics.

The Asian Games final was Panghal’s first appearance at the event. At the time of its report, Hindustan Times described him as 21 and identified him as being from Hisar district in Haryana. The result marked a major step for a boxer whose rise had already included a national-level breakthrough: Hindustan Times reported that he took silver in the 80 kg final at the 2025 World Boxing Cup Final in Greater Noida after entering as a late injury replacement.
#1 Best Overall
- Wrestling Medal Hanger: Designed with a wrestling theme and featuring a wrestling scene with “Leave It On The Mat” text, this medal rack is a great way to display and organize medals and ribbons.
- 5 Rows 20 Hooks Design: This sports medal holder measures 40x25cm/15.7x9.8 inch, and we've made a new upgrade by increasing the number of hooks to 5 rows for a total of 20 hooks to hold more medals.
- Upgraded Non-slip Stop Block Design: We improved the design of the hangers and added a non-slip stop block, so that the medal ribbon would hang firmly on it and would not fall off.
- Wall Mounted Holders: This medal holder is equipped with screws and wall plugs to be mounted on walls, compared with self-adhesive hookers, it’s much more durable and stronger in load-bearing capacity.
- Stylish Holder for Sports: Designed in matte black steel with a sports logo, this medal hook not only saves space, but also serves as a beautiful home decor item and gift for friends and family.
Training near his village
The Indian Express traced Panghal’s development to Bheria village near Hisar and his work with coach Pradeep Sawant. The newspaper reported that Sawant had him run for endurance in sand dunes near the village, a detail that offers a glimpse of the training behind his progression without reducing the result to a single workout or method.
What the gold means in the context of Indian boxing
The Tribune reported that Panghal became the first Indian male boxer since Amit Panghal in 2018 to win Asian Games gold. Hindustan Times also noted Amit Panghal’s 2018 title and heavyweight boxer Hawa Singh’s golds in 1966 and 1970. These historical comparisons place Ankush Panghal’s victory in context; they do not make the weight divisions or eras directly comparable.
