Aman Sehrawat won the men’s freestyle 57kg gold at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, beating DPR Korea’s Han Chong-song 11-7 in the final on October 3, 2026. The victory gives Sehrawat his first Asian Games title in the division, upgrading the bronze he earned at Hangzhou 2022.
How Sehrawat won the 57kg final
The final was a close, shifting contest, but reports differ on the precise late scoring sequence. Hindustan Times says Sehrawat led 4-1, Han cut the margin to 7-5, and Sehrawat then scored a late two-point throw; Han’s unsuccessful challenge added the final point. Hindustan Times’ match report describes that sequence.
Times of India’s account instead says Sehrawat fell behind 6-7 before making a four-point move, followed by a point awarded after a failed challenge. Times of India’s report gives that version. The accounts agree on the final score, 11-7; their play-by-play should not be combined into a single sequence.
A bruising finish
Hindustan Times reported that Sehrawat was cut under his left eye and later had a mouth bleed during the bout. The outlet says he continued defending against Han’s leg attacks and closed out the match; these are details from its account, not independently confirmed injury findings.

Sehrawat’s route to the final
According to Hindustan Times, Sehrawat reached the final after three wins earlier on October 3:
- 20-9 against Japan’s Yamoto Ogawa
- 12-1 against Kazakhstan’s Nurdanat Aitanov
- 14-8 against Tajikistan’s Aiaal Belolyubskii
What the gold means in Sehrawat’s career
Sehrawat had won bronze in the same Asian Games weight class at Hangzhou 2022. The Aichi-Nagoya victory is his first Asian Games gold, and The Indian Express describes him as the first Indian to win Asian Games gold in men’s 57kg freestyle. His other major milestones include bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the 57kg title at the 2022 Under-23 World Championships, and gold at the 2023 Asian Championships, according to The Indian Express.

The post-Paris reset behind the win
Hindustan Times reported that Sehrawat and coach Lalit Kumar reviewed technical weaknesses after the Paris Olympics, focusing on leg defence, counterattacks and physicality. Kumar told the outlet: “There were a few technical issues. He was still very young, his body was still developing, so there were a few techniques he couldn’t implement. But with Los Angeles 2028 on our radar, it was time to start afresh.”

Kumar also described the team’s confidence before the final: “We were confident of a gold. There was never a doubt. It doesn’t matter if he is facing a world champion or an Olympic champion.
