The short answer is that responsibility for the finish is split. ARTmeetAI says human artists correct, interpret, and finish an image that AI helped start. Its terms make the user responsible for having the rights to whatever they submit, and they disclaim any guarantee of a particular artistic result. Whether the finished picture is protected by copyright is a separate question, and under U.S. Copyright Office guidance the answer depends on the human expressive contribution in each case.
What ARTmeetAI says it does
ARTmeetAI presents itself as a place for people who use AI as a starting tool, not as the source of a final artistic result. Its homepage describes a sequence: an initial idea, a rough sketch, an unfinished image, or an early composition goes into a brief that says what should stay and what should change, then passes to a human artist for refinement, and ends with an image intended for a portfolio, publication, client work, or collaboration. The homepage puts the division of labor in one sentence: AI can help explore pose, mood, composition, and direction, while human artists bring judgement, correction, taste, and a recognizable artistic note.
The refinement services
The site lists four specific kinds of work:
- Concept cleanup for problems that generated images often show, such as anatomy, perspective, duplicate elements, and unstable details.
- Style-led refinement, where an existing image is pushed toward a chosen look.
- Creative rebuilds, where the artist reworks the image rather than only touching it up.
- Artist collaboration, where a person works with the client on the result.
The commission page adds the areas an artist can improve: composition, anatomy, detail hierarchy, lighting, color, mood, style consistency, and presentation. Read together, these lists show what the human side is expected to take over. They do not show how much of the original image survives, which is set by the brief.

The homepage also offers an image-upscaling tool for preparing a base image before deeper refinement. As described on the homepage when it was accessed on October 7, 2026, the tool allows five runs a day without logging in and twenty a day when logged in with Google or Discord. These are operational limits that the service can change, so check the current figures before relying on them.

Who takes responsibility for each part of the finish
“Responsibility” covers several different things, and the question is easier to answer when those are separated.
- Who makes the image better? ARTmeetAI’s service description places correction, redrawing, interpretation, and finishing with its human artists.
- Who has permission to submit the source material? The user. The terms say users must have the rights needed to upload, share, or commission work based on what they submit.
- Who guarantees the outcome? No one, according to the terms. ARTmeetAI does not promise a specific artistic result or a match with the client’s taste.
- Who owns the copyright in the finished image? This depends on the law of the country concerned and on the human authorship in the image. It is not settled by the platform’s terms.
These are related but not interchangeable. An artist can make an image much better and still leave the client with no copyright. A user can own every right in their reference photo and still receive an image the service does not guarantee to look as they hoped.

What the platform terms do and do not cover
The terms describe the service as covering community images, contest uploads, upscale preparation, and human-led refinement requests. Three points matter for the finish.

The user carries the burden of having rights to upload, share, or commission work based on what they submit. Public contest submissions may be displayed and hosted publicly. A commission request permits the service to review the uploaded files for that service.
- Pricing. Commission fees depend on scope, complexity, usage, and artist availability. The terms describe typical small refinement work as EUR 10 to EUR 100 and say the final price is confirmed individually before work starts. Treat that range as the site’s indicative figure for the terms effective May 25, 2026, not as a quote or a guaranteed current price.
- Liability and governing law. The terms limit liability for paid work to the value of the relevant order and state that Austrian law governs where legally permitted. That clause governs the contract with ARTmeetAI. It does not decide who owns the copyright in an image, and it does not settle infringement questions in other countries.
Copyright in a finished AI-assisted image
The U.S. Copyright Office’s January 29, 2025 announcement summarizes Part 2 of its report on copyright and artificial intelligence. It says generative-AI output can be protected only where a human author has determined sufficient expressive elements. Human contributions that can count include human-authored work that is perceptible in the output, and creative arrangements or modifications of the material. Merely providing prompts does not suffice. The announcement also confirms that using AI to assist the creative process does not, by itself, bar copyrightability.

The Office’s registration guidance asks applicants to name the human author and briefly describe the human-authored contribution. It says an AI technology or its provider should not be listed as an author merely because the technology was used.
Three limits apply. First, this is U.S. guidance. ARTmeetAI’s terms name Austrian law, and other countries have their own tests. Second, the guidance describes a case-specific assessment. It does not say how many edits, how many hours, or how much prompt detail is enough. Third, the presence of a human artist in the workflow does not by itself make a particular commission copyrightable. The question is what the human author actually contributed to the expression that appears in the final image.

Two routes to a finished image
There are two practical routes. One treats an AI result as a visualization and has a human artist finish it. The other treats the model’s output as finished, with no human alteration. The table compares them on the points that determine responsibility.

Neither route is always safer legally or better artistically. Route A moves more of the visual responsibility to a person who can be held to a brief. Route B is faster and cheaper, but the user carries the full burden of checking the output. Which one fits depends on the intended use and on how much human authorship the user needs to be able to document.

Before you commission a finish
- Confirm the rights in every input. Check that you have permission for each reference photo, sketch, and uploaded image before you submit it.
- Decide what must stay. Write down the parts of the composition, pose, or palette you want to keep. The brief is the main tool for controlling how much of the original survives.
- Agree the deliverables and price first. Get the scope and final price confirmed before work begins, since the terms say the price is set individually.
- Keep the earlier versions. Save the generated starting image, the brief, and each revision. If you later register the work, you will need to describe the human contribution accurately, and the record helps.
- Decide where the image will be shown. If you enter a contest or otherwise make the upload public, assume it may be displayed publicly under the terms.
Those steps do not remove the legal question. They make it easier to answer for a specific image. For a generated image that still needs anatomy, composition, lighting, or presentation work, the practical option is ARTmeetAI’s human-led artwork refinement, which gives the finishing job to an artist working from your brief.
