Artemis Security announced Orion-1 on October 8, 2026, describing it as a cybersecurity model that investigates activity across enterprise systems and connects individual signals into an account of a possible attack. The company says it can recommend or take responses within customer-configured limits. At launch, Orion-1 was available only in private preview to selected Artemis customers; its benchmark claims have not been independently verified.
What Orion-1 is designed to do
Orion-1 is a defensive cybersecurity model that runs within the Artemis Security platform, rather than a general-purpose assistant, according to Artemis Security’s announcement. Artemis says its post-training covered defensive work such as threat detection, threat hunting, detection creation, investigation, and incident response. The company says customer data was not used for training.
Artemis says Orion-1 can examine security logs spanning identity, cloud, endpoint, SaaS, network, and AI systems. Its purpose is to connect activity that may seem ordinary when viewed in isolation, then produce an incident narrative and a decision with supporting evidence and stated confidence.

How an investigation is supposed to work
- Start with an alert or other initial signal and gather relevant context across the environment.
- Combine evidence from different systems to assess whether the activity is connected.
- Change investigative direction if one line of inquiry does not produce useful evidence.
- Reach a decision and recommend or take a response within the customer’s configured autonomy.
These are Artemis’s descriptions of intended behavior, not independently established performance findings. The company’s CTO, Dan Shiebler, said a real attack can leave small traces across many systems, with no individual trace necessarily alarming on its own. That statement explains the problem Orion-1 is intended to address; it does not validate the model’s results.

What Artemis’s benchmark claims show—and what they do not
Artemis says it created a test called Decision-Grade Readiness (DGR) to assess whether a model’s security decisions are reliable enough for a senior security engineer to act on. The company describes the evaluation as thousands of tasks based on scenarios with known outcomes. In its account, models receive the same trigger, environmental context, and scoped access to the same data sources and actions. The scenarios include benign activity that could look malicious and cases where no attack occurred; scoring considers both whether the conclusion is correct and whether the evidence supports it.
In its October 8, 2026 launch release, Artemis said it compared Orion-1 with Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Sol, Grok 4.7, and Kimi K3, and that no tested frontier model scored higher across its measured tasks. For attack reconstruction, Artemis reported a score of 80.8 for Orion-1 versus 58.3 for the best other frontier model it tested. The release does not establish enough detail about the scale to independently interpret or reproduce the comparison. Artemis’s company-issued release supplies the figures; Unite.AI’s coverage characterizes the result as vendor-reported and not independently verified.
Open questions include task composition, scoring details, variability across repeated runs, model configurations, and performance in unfamiliar environments. The reported lead is therefore a company benchmark claim, not independent proof that Orion-1 will outperform other models in a particular organization’s security environment.

Other figures in the launch announcement
Artemis Security Research also reported two figures for the environments Artemis defends. The company did not provide underlying data or methodology in the reviewed launch materials for independent verification.
Rank #3
| Figure | What Artemis says it measures | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 268% increase between April and August 2026 | Suspicious and malicious AI-enhanced activity across environments Artemis defends. | A company-reported change in those environments, not a measure of the cybersecurity market as a whole. |
| 92% of confirmed attacks | Attacks Artemis says were caught at the point of entry by detections tuned to each environment. | A company-reported result for the environments Artemis defends; the release does not supply supporting methodology for independent verification. |
Both figures come from the October 8, 2026 company-issued release. They should not be generalized to other organizations or treated as independently validated measurements.
Customer controls and operational questions
Artemis says customers can set autonomy by action type, from recommendations only to fully automated responses. High-impact responses require human approval by default, and the company says investigations and actions are logged for end-to-end auditing. It also says every Orion-1 decision includes evidence and stated confidence.
Rank #4
Those descriptions do not establish how controls will work in every deployment. An organization considering the platform should confirm the approval defaults, action-specific limits, escalation paths, audit records, and evidence available to reviewers in its own environment. It should also assess false positives and missed attacks, the sources and context the system can access, data-handling requirements, and whether the benchmark has been independently validated.
