Around 4,000 LT grade teachers in Uttar Pradesh government secondary schools are being considered for promotion to lecturer posts, but the promotions have not yet been formally cleared. The reported next step is a meeting of a departmental promotion committee (DPC) convened by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC).
What is proposed, and who is included?
Hindustan Times reported on October 3, 2026, that the proposed list covers more than 2,100 male-cadre teachers and over 1,800 female-cadre teachers. The figure of around 4,000 describes the scale of the proposal, not the number of promotion orders already issued. Hindustan Times
What must happen before promotions are formal?
The education directorate was expected to write to UPPSC to convene a DPC meeting. According to the report, the committee’s formal clearance is still pending; officials expected the process to move forward shortly, but no firm completion date was given.
The state-government direction reportedly set September 30 as the deadline for completing the exercise. Preparation and scrutiny of seniority lists took longer than expected, and the deadline passed without the reported DPC step being completed.

Why has the exercise been delayed?
Hindustan Times reported that the secondary education department had approached UPPSC roughly two years earlier about convening the DPC. The commission raised objections to proposals covering vacancies from academic sessions 2019–20 through 2023–24. The newspaper described the objections as procedural:
- Vacancy proposals needed details of why and when each vacancy arose.
- Seniority lists needed certification that they were undisputed; seniority disputes also affected the male cadre.
- The women teachers’ list had non-sequential numbering.
- Reservation for persons with disabilities had not been earmarked against posts requisitioned year by year.
The report does not establish that every objection has been resolved, and the underlying UPPSC letters and official promotion rules were not available for independent review.

What is the reported promotion rule and prior history?
Hindustan Times says LT grade teachers with five years of service are to be considered for promotion each year against available lecturer vacancies. This is the newspaper’s account of the rule; the underlying rule text was not independently reviewed.
