Arm’s Mali G2-Ultra NX is a mobile GPU architecture announced on September 8, 2026, as part of the company’s CSS for Mobile 2 platform. Arm’s headline claim is up to 4× higher performance per watt for neural graphics when paired with Arm Neural Technology—not a fourfold increase in every kind of GPU or AI performance. The practical gains will depend on how chipmakers, game developers, and device makers implement the technology.
What is the Mali G2-Ultra NX?
The Mali G2-Ultra NX is a GPU design for next-generation mobile devices, not a standalone graphics card or a component phone owners can install. Arm offers CSS for Mobile 2 to silicon partners. Its September 8, 2026 announcement describes the G2-Ultra NX as Arm’s first Mali GPU with dedicated neural accelerators integrated into its shader cores. Arm’s platform announcement describes the platform and its intended role.
Arm executive Chris Bergey framed the opportunity this way: “At the same time, there is a huge opportunity for AI-native graphics to push beyond what users expect from a mobile device.” That is Arm’s view of where mobile graphics could go, rather than an independent assessment of the GPU.

Arm claims up to 4× higher performance per watt for neural graphics when the G2-Ultra NX is paired with Arm Neural Technology. Performance per watt measures work completed relative to power consumed; it is not a claim that all games will run four times faster, or that the GPU has four times the general-purpose AI performance.

The qualifier “up to” matters: it describes a peak claimed result, not a guaranteed improvement in every workload or phone. Arm’s materials do not establish independent test results across shipping devices, so the figure should be treated as a manufacturer claim rather than a retail-phone benchmark.
What changes in the GPU architecture?
Neural accelerators inside shader cores
Arm says the neural accelerators reuse the GPU’s memory system, coherent caches, and control structures. The design is intended to reduce data movement and let neural graphics run alongside conventional graphics and compute workloads. Less data movement can help efficiency, but real results depend on software and device implementation.
A new execution engine
Arm describes the execution engine as the largest Mali GPU instruction-set architecture change in seven generations, with up to twice as many registers per warp. That is an architectural change, not a direct promise that a game or application will be twice as fast.

Third-generation ray tracing
The GPU also introduces third-generation ray-tracing hardware, aimed at more complex lighting, shadows, reflections, and geometry. Arm claims up to 13% lower DRAM traffic on leading ray-tracing benchmarks. Separately, in one Arm demonstration, Opacity Micromaps delivered up to 30% higher frame rates and up to 70% lower ray-tracing workload. Those are benchmark- and demo-specific figures, not expected gains for every game.
How could neural graphics change mobile games?
Arm describes three uses for its neural graphics technology. Each can reduce some conventional rendering work, but results depend on implementation, supported games, image quality, latency, power, and device thermals.
Neural Super Sampling
Neural Super Sampling (NSS) reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render. The goal is to reduce the work required to render every pixel at the final output resolution. The quality of the reconstructed image—and whether it looks acceptable in motion—depends on the game’s implementation.

Neural Frame Rate Upscaling
Neural Frame Rate Upscaling (NFRU) generates intermediate frames between conventionally rendered frames to raise the displayed frame rate. A higher displayed rate is not automatically the same as lower input latency or smoother frame pacing; those depend on the complete implementation and device.

Neural Super Sampling and Denoising
Neural Super Sampling and Denoising (NSSD) combines upscaling with denoising for ray-traced scenes. It is intended to help produce a cleaner image while reducing the amount of traditional rendering required.
How strong are Arm’s other performance numbers?
Arm also reports up to 24% higher benchmark performance and up to 14% higher non-AI gaming performance than the previous generation. The announcement presents these as Arm’s comparisons; they are not independent tests of retail phones or guarantees for a specific game.

In its Neural Dawn demonstration, developed with Sumo Digital, Arm reports up to 4× higher performance efficiency and up to 70% lower external memory traffic compared with native rendering. These figures apply to that demonstration, not to all games or devices. Arm’s G2-Ultra NX announcement describes the claims and named demonstrations.
These numbers measure different things: benchmark performance, non-AI gaming, neural-graphics performance per watt, and memory traffic. They should not be combined into a single estimate of how much faster a future phone will feel.

Arm names several integrations and demonstrations, but they do not establish that every feature is already available to consumers:

- MagicDawn and Tuanjie Engine: Arm names Tencent Games Central Tech’s MagicDawn and Unity China’s Tuanjie Engine as integrations of Arm Neural Technology.
- Where Winds Meet: Arm says NetEase is planning an NSS-enabled version.
- Arena Breakout Infinite: Arm describes an NSSD demonstration using Tencent Games’ game.
- Infinity Nikki: Arm names an NSS integration with Infold Games’ title.
Plans, demonstrations, and engine integrations are not the same as confirmed support in a released mobile game. Availability will depend on the game, its platform version, and the device’s GPU and software support.
What should you check when comparing mobile GPUs?
A peak neural-graphics figure alone cannot tell you which phone will deliver the better gaming experience. Compare like with like across the following dimensions:
- Neural-graphics performance per watt, using the same workload and test conditions.
- Ordinary benchmark performance and non-AI game performance as separate measures.
- Ray-tracing capability and memory traffic, with the benchmark or game identified.
- Image quality, latency, and frame pacing when neural upscaling or generated frames are enabled.
- Sustained performance under a phone’s thermal and power limits.
- Actual support in games, engines, software, and devices you can use.
Arm’s earlier Mali G1-Ultra page describes a different generation and internal testing performed in March 2025. Its results should not be confused with G2-Ultra NX claims or treated as directly comparable unless the workload and test conditions match. When will a phone with G2-Ultra NX be available?
Arm’s announcement presents CSS for Mobile 2 as a platform for silicon partners and next-generation devices, but it does not identify a retail phone shipping with the Mali G2-Ultra NX. The named software work shows that developers and engine teams are engaging with Arm Neural Technology; it does not confirm a consumer device, release date, or broad game availability. Until a handset maker names a purchasable device and confirms its specifications, the architecture is best understood as a future platform capability rather than a buying option.
