The Arlo Ultra 3—also listed by Arlo as the Ultra Security Camera 4K (3rd Gen)—is a premium outdoor camera built around 4K HDR video, a wide-angle lens, color night vision and motion tracking. Its main buying caveats are just as important: it requires a compatible Arlo SmartHub, and cloud storage and several advanced features require a paid Arlo Secure plan. The value depends on the complete system price, not just the camera.
What is the Arlo Ultra 3?
Arlo’s US product page labels the Ultra Security Camera 4K (3rd Gen) a 2025 release. It is a wire-free outdoor security camera that connects through an Arlo SmartHub rather than operating as a standalone Wi-Fi camera. Arlo’s support specification says the camera “connects through an Arlo SmartHub.” Arlo’s product page and support specifications describe its features and requirements.
Image quality and coverage
4K HDR video
Arlo specifies video resolution up to 4K UHD, or 3840 × 2160 pixels, from an 8-megapixel image sensor. HDR is intended to retain detail in scenes with bright and dark areas. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of image quality in different lighting or network conditions.

Wide view, zoom and tracking
The lens has a 180-degree diagonal field of view. That figure is diagonal, not horizontal, so it should not be read as 180 degrees of side-to-side coverage. Arlo also lists 12x digital zoom, auto-zoom and tracking. Digital zoom enlarges image detail rather than adding optical magnification.

Night vision and spotlight
The camera includes color night vision and a spotlight. T3’s 2026 UK review praised the camera’s image quality, night vision, spotlight and wide field of view. That is the reviewer’s assessment, not a controlled lab result or a test conducted for this article. Does the Arlo Ultra 3 need a SmartHub?
Yes. Arlo specifies the VMB5000 and VMB4540 SmartHub/Base Station models as compatible. A camera-only add-on does not replace the hub, and a single-camera listing may not include one. Multi-camera bundles include a SmartHub according to Arlo, but check the exact SKU and box contents before ordering. Arlo also lists an available Ethernet port on the router as a setup requirement.

Arlo specifies a minimum upload and download speed of 2 Mbps per camera. Its stated wireless range is up to 300 ft (91 m) in line of sight; walls, interference and the layout between camera and hub can reduce practical reach. Confirm coverage at the intended mounting position rather than relying on the maximum range figure.
Subscriptions, storage and what works without a plan
Arlo says, “Live streaming and basic alerts work without a subscription.” Basic motion notifications and live viewing remain available without a paid plan. Cloud video storage, video object detection and other premium features require an Arlo Secure plan; features and availability may vary by region. Check Arlo’s current plan details for your location before buying if those capabilities are essential.

Arlo says local storage can be set up through a compatible SmartHub with a separately purchased microSD card. The card is not included, and Arlo’s product page says the SmartHub and card are sold separately for a single/add-on camera; multi-camera bundles include the hub but still sell the card separately. Confirm the compatible card requirements for the hub and the precise contents of the selected package. T3 also noted that local hub storage uses a user-supplied microSD card, while AI extras remain limited without a subscription.
Battery life, weather rating and charging
Arlo estimates up to six months of battery life and says the Ultra 3 lasts 15% longer than the Ultra 2. The company cautions that battery performance varies, so six months is an estimate, not a guaranteed service interval or an independently measured result. Frequent motion events, live viewing and local conditions can affect how often charging is needed.

Arlo specifies an operating temperature range of -4°F to 113°F (-20°C to 45°C) and describes the camera as weather-resistant. It charges via USB-C, and Arlo lists the VMA7600 solar panel as a compatible accessory. Verify the accessory model and whether it is included in the particular bundle; do not assume a solar panel comes with the camera.
How much does the Arlo Ultra 3 cost?
Prices and package contents depend on market, bundle and date. Arlo’s US page displayed one three-camera bundle at a regular price of $399.99 when accessed on October 7, 2026; other bundle and add-on configurations had different prices. This is a dated listing, not a stable MSRP or a current guarantee. Check the live listing and confirm whether it includes the hub and any charging accessories.

In its 2026 UK review, T3 reported prices starting at £529.99 for a two-camera kit, £629.99 for three cameras, £799.99 for four, and £259.99 for an additional camera. These are UK figures reported for the reviewed market and should not be compared directly with the US listing. T3 also reported a £199.90/year Secure Plus annual plan price and a new-customer camera discount; plan prices and promotional eligibility can change, so verify them with Arlo before purchase.
Is the Arlo Ultra 3 worth buying?
The Ultra 3 makes the most sense when 4K detail, broad diagonal coverage, color night vision and tracking are priorities—and when the cost of the hub, storage choice and any recurring subscription fits the budget. Arlo’s feature set is substantial, but the system requirement and plan-dependent features mean the camera’s listing price alone does not capture the cost of ownership.
T3’s reviewer considered the kit expensive and noted that many features depend on a subscription. That review is useful context, but a fair comparison with alternatives requires current, model-specific prices and feature checks. Before choosing, compare the total price for the number of cameras needed, whether a hub is included, the local plan cost if required, and the cost of any microSD card or solar accessory.

Consider it if
- You specifically want up to 4K HDR resolution and a 180-degree diagonal view.
- You can place the cameras within reliable range of a compatible SmartHub and meet the per-camera internet speed requirement.
- You are comfortable paying for a plan if cloud storage or premium detection features matter to you.
Look elsewhere if
- You need a standalone camera with no separate hub.
- You want cloud recording or advanced detection without a recurring plan.
- Your priority is the lowest total system cost rather than 4K resolution and Arlo’s broader feature set.
