Argentina’s amended Citizenship Law allows a foreigner who proves a qualifying investment in the country to apply for naturalization regardless of how long they have lived there. On 2 October 2026, the government announced two investment options: a non-refundable USD 350,000 contribution to the National Treasury or a USD 800,000 subscription to a program-specific public security. The route is not an automatic citizenship purchase: the investment and applicant undergo government review, and the National Directorate of Migration (DNM) makes the final decision. As of 4 October 2026, the government had announced that applications would be received during Q4 2026, but had not published a precise opening date or complete filing instructions.

Who can apply for Argentine citizenship by investment?

Law 346, as amended by Decree 366/2025, establishes investment-based naturalization for foreigners who prove that they made a “relevant investment” in Argentina. The law does not set a minimum residence period for this route. The Ministry of Economy defines what counts as relevant and may designate particular investment projects; the Citizenship by Investment Agency evaluates applications under those rules.

This is eligibility to apply, not a guarantee of approval. Applicants must establish that the investment meets the operative requirements and pass the applicable financial, identity, security and background reviews.

What are the announced investment requirements?

The Argentine government’s announcement of 2 October 2026 named two principal options. It says funds must move through the formal financial system and meet applicable anti-money-laundering, counter-terrorist-financing and financial-transparency standards.

Option Announced amount What is established
National Treasury contribution USD 350,000 A direct, non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury.
Program-specific public security USD 800,000 Subscription to a public security created specifically for the program. The announcement does not state its full terms, payment mechanics, return, maturity or liquidity.

The USD 800,000 option should not be treated as a donation, bank deposit or guaranteed-return investment: the published announcement does not establish those characteristics. Applicants should obtain and review the instrument’s operative terms before committing funds.

Family contributions

The announcement says the principal applicant’s spouse and children may apply by proving their family relationship and making the contribution announced for their category.

Family applicant Announced contribution Qualification
Spouse USD 100,000 Contribution amount stated for the spouse category.
Child aged 18–25 USD 100,000 Must be unmarried and have no children.
Child under 18 USD 25,000 Per child.

The government’s example total for one principal applicant, a spouse and two minor children is USD 500,000. The announcement does not fully specify whether every family contribution must use the principal applicant’s payment mechanism or what detailed documents prove each relationship; check the operative application rules when published.

How does the investment route compare with ordinary naturalization?

Argentina also has a separate naturalization route based on residence. The two routes have different eligibility conditions; residence-route filing instructions should not be assumed to govern investment applicants.

Investment route Ordinary residence route
Basic eligibility Prove a relevant investment in Argentina; no minimum residence duration is stated for this route. Age 18 or older, legal and continuous residence in Argentina for the preceding two years, and declaration of intent to naturalize before DNM.
Physical presence rule No prior-residence minimum is stated in the investment provision. The updated law defines continuous residence as remaining in Argentina throughout the two-year period without leaving the country.
Financial threshold Government-announced options are USD 350,000 or USD 800,000, with family contribution amounts described above. No investment contribution is specified in the ordinary-route rule summarized here.
Filing channel Specific investment-route portal and complete checklist were not identified in the 2 October 2026 announcement. DNM’s 3 October 2025 notice describes online filing through RaDEX for this route.

What happens after an investment application is submitted?

Decree 524/2025 describes the review sequence. It assigns distinct roles to the Agency and DNM, and its 30-business-day period applies only after DNM receives the Agency’s report.

  1. Match the investment to the operative rules. The Ministry of Economy defines “relevant investment.” The government has announced two program options, but applicants should verify the full financial terms and evidence requirements against the operative materials.
  2. Apply to the Citizenship by Investment Agency. The decree says the foreign applicant applies to the Agency, which evaluates whether the investment qualifies as relevant under the Ministry’s rules.
  3. Complete the government and security review. If the Agency considers the investment relevant, it seeks input from the security ministry, the Financial Information Unit (UIF), the criminal-record registry, RENAPER, SIDE and any other bodies it considers necessary. It then sends DNM a reasoned recommendation to approve or reject. A non-relevant investment or a negative recommendation from consulted bodies leads the Agency to recommend rejection.
  4. Wait for DNM’s decision. DNM must analyze the Agency’s report and issue a reasoned grant or refusal within 30 business days after receiving it. This is not an end-to-end processing estimate: it excludes the Agency’s earlier evaluation and the time needed to obtain outside reports.
  5. Use the launch instructions for this route. The government announced that intake would become operational during Q4 2026, but its announcement did not specify an opening day, investment-route portal or complete document checklist. Follow official Agency or DNM instructions before transferring funds or assembling a filing.

Does the RaDEX checklist apply to investment applicants?

No investment-route checklist was established in the reviewed launch announcement. DNM’s 3 October 2025 RaDEX notice concerns the ordinary, two-year residence-based naturalization route. That notice says applicants must be in Argentina and initially submit a DNI, an updated criminal-record certificate, proof of occupation or livelihood, and CUIT/CUIL; DNM may request additional documents. These are not established requirements for the investment route, so do not treat RaDEX or that document list as its filing instructions.

What should applicants verify before committing funds?

  • The exact date applications open and the official filing address or portal.
  • The complete investment-route forms, supporting-document checklist and evidence standards.
  • The public security’s binding terms, including payment process, maturity, liquidity and any return.
  • How each family member’s contribution is paid and what proof of relationship is accepted.
  • The full processing timeline and any additional charges beyond the announced contribution.

These details were not set out in the government’s 2 October 2026 announcement. Because the program is newly announced and applications receive individualized review, confirm current operational requirements with the Agency or DNM and consider advice from a qualified Argentine immigration lawyer before transferring money.
