Xiaomi phones are not universally waterproof: water resistance depends on the exact model and its tested conditions. Xiaomi UK lists IP68 for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17, but their published static-freshwater test limits differ: up to 6 meters for the Ultra and 4 meters for the 17, each for up to 30 minutes. These are laboratory conditions—not safe swimming depths or a promise that a phone will survive every water exposure.
Which Xiaomi phones have a published water-resistance rating?
The examples below show why you should check the precise model and regional specification rather than assume all Xiaomi phones have the same protection. This is an illustrative list, not a complete catalogue or confirmation that each model is currently sold in every country.
| Model | Published rating and test conditions | Market and caveats |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 17 Ultra | IP68; static freshwater up to 6 m for up to 30 minutes, with a water-to-phone temperature difference of no more than 5°C. | Xiaomi UK. Xiaomi says the conditions are laboratory-specific and does not recommend beach or pool use. Xiaomi 17 Ultra specifications |
| Xiaomi 17 | IP68; static freshwater up to 4 m for up to 30 minutes, with a water-to-phone temperature difference of no more than 5°C. | Xiaomi UK. Its stated depth is different from the 17 Ultra’s. Xiaomi 17 specifications |
| Xiaomi 14T | IP68; still water under 2 m for 30 minutes, with a temperature difference of no more than 5°C. | Xiaomi Global support information; an example from another series, not a current-lineup claim. Xiaomi 14T support information |
| Xiaomi 14 | IP68, referencing IEC 60529; the cited specification result does not state a test depth. | Xiaomi Spain. Check the complete specification for your local model before relying on a particular depth. Xiaomi 14 specifications |
| Redmi K70 Ultra | Xiaomi corporate reporting describes water resistance up to 2 m. | A Redmi subbrand example, not evidence about all Xiaomi-branded phones or current global availability. Xiaomi corporate report |
Xiaomi’s 14T Pro support result warns that harsh environments can reduce water resistance, but does not establish a test depth for comparison. Xiaomi 14T Pro support information

What do the IP68 rating and depth figures mean?
IP68 is an ingress-protection classification, not a blanket waterproof guarantee. Xiaomi’s 17 Ultra specifications reference IEC 60529 and EN 60529 and describe the rating as applying under specific laboratory conditions. Xiaomi cautions that those conditions “do not correspond to the normal conditions of consumer use.” Xiaomi 17 Ultra specifications

The listed depth and duration describe the specified test—not a recommended depth for everyday use. In particular, the 17 Ultra’s 6 m figure and the Xiaomi 17’s 4 m figure are not interchangeable. Neither figure establishes protection in every kind of water exposure or guarantees that an individual phone will remain undamaged.
Can you take a Xiaomi phone swimming or to the beach?
Do not treat an IP68 rating as permission to swim with your phone. Xiaomi explicitly says the 17 Ultra is not recommended for beach or pool use and advises users not to test the water-resistance rating themselves. Follow the guidance for the exact model you own; the cited swimming and beach warning is specific to Xiaomi’s 17 Ultra page, not a universal statement about every model.

Resistance may decline with everyday wear, physical damage, or disassembly during repair. The 17 Ultra page says liquid damage outside its IP68 test conditions is not covered by the warranty language shown there. Review the warranty terms for your own region and model. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to check your Xiaomi model before buying or using it
- Identify the complete model name and the regional version, not just the Xiaomi series name.
- Open the Xiaomi product page for your country and check the exact model’s official specifications for an IP rating.
- Read the stated test medium, depth, duration, and temperature conditions. If a specification does not give a depth, do not infer one from the rating alone.
- Read the manufacturer’s water-use warnings and the applicable local warranty terms, especially if the phone is damaged, repaired, or intended for use near water.
- Choose based on the exposure you actually expect. A laboratory rating does not make a phone suitable for swimming, pools, beaches, or other use the manufacturer cautions against.
The cited specifications cover UK, Spain, and global support materials; they do not establish a complete worldwide list of models or availability as of October 2026. Check Xiaomi’s current country-specific page for your exact SKU.
