There is not enough evidence to call women’s sports an exception to a sports valuation bubble. The market is growing quickly and attracting investors, but revenue forecasts and deal activity do not show whether team prices are justified by future cash flows—or whether investors are earning returns. The opportunity is real; the valuation verdict is not yet established.
Why are women’s sports valuations rising?
The investment case starts with audience and revenue growth. Deloitte’s March 2025 forecast put global women’s elite sports revenue above US$2.35 billion in 2025. A later Deloitte Global report describes 2025 revenue as more than US$2.4 billion and forecasts at least US$3 billion in 2026. The latter is a forecast, not a reported 2026 result; neither figure should be mistaken for a comprehensive, audited account of every league or team’s finances. Commercial income is a major part of that growth story. Deloitte US projected US$1.26 billion in commercial revenue for 2025, or 54% of total women’s elite sports revenue. That category includes sponsorships and partnerships and can include merchandising and related commercial income; it does not mean all revenue is recurring or equally profitable. Growth is not uniform across sports. Deloitte’s March 2025 outlook projected the following revenue figures; they are estimates for 2024 and forecasts for 2025, not verified final results:

Deloitte’s sport-level estimates and forecasts indicate different growth trajectories. An aggregate market increase therefore should not be used as a shortcut for estimating every club’s prospects.
Does investor interest prove the market is in a bubble—or protected from one?
No. Deloitte’s 2025 Sports Investment Outlook identifies the NWSL, WNBA and European football as key deal spaces in 2024, and says investor interest in women’s sports growth helped drive deal values. That is evidence of capital and attention entering the market, not a representative set of transaction multiples, realized returns or proof that prices are either excessive or insulated from wider sports-market risk. A bubble is a claim about prices relative to the value investors can ultimately realize. Strong revenue growth can support higher valuations, but it does not settle that question: teams can grow revenue while spending heavily, requiring new capital or generating limited cash. Likewise, a competitive bidding process shows demand for an asset, not that its buyer will earn an attractive return.

Deloitte’s earlier prediction that several women’s sports teams would exceed US$100 million in value in 2024 illustrates why the distinction matters. It was a forecast published ahead of 2024, not evidence that teams subsequently reached those values or that any such prices were supported by operating performance. Deloitte Insights’ prediction.

Are women’s sports teams overvalued?
The available figures do not establish that they are—or that they are not. A market-level revenue estimate cannot tell a buyer what a particular franchise is worth. That requires asset-level transaction prices and comparable financial information, including operating costs, cash flow, media-rights terms, ownership rights, facility obligations and the growth assumptions built into the price.
The same discipline applies to claims about returns. Deloitte’s Jennifer Haskel, knowledge and insights lead in the Sports Business Group, said: “The growth of women’s sport has continued to exceed expectations as various competitions, leagues, clubs, and athletes generate significant returns, despite limited resources.” The phrase “significant returns” is Haskel’s characterization; the cited release does not provide a comparable, quantified return series for women’s sports investments. Is women’s sports a better investment than men’s sports?
The evidence cited here cannot support a general ranking. It does not provide a consistent comparison of realized valuations, revenue multiples, operating margins, cash flows or investor returns across women’s and men’s teams. Different leagues, sports, geographies and stages of development also have different economics, so a single market-wide comparison could obscure more than it reveals.

For any two specific assets, an investor would need to compare like with like rather than assume that a faster-growing market is automatically the better investment.

What should an investor examine before judging a team’s valuation?
A useful comparison starts with the asset and its economics, not the headline growth rate. Examine these factors together:
- League, sport and market: Identify the competition, geography and maturity of each asset. Do not treat a league-wide market forecast as a forecast for a single team.
- Revenue mix and durability: Separate media rights, sponsorship, ticketing, licensing and merchandise. Check contract terms, renewal dates and sponsorship concentration rather than assuming commercial income will recur.
- Profitability and capital needs: Compare revenue growth with operating margins, free cash flow and the investment required to run and grow the team.
- Media-rights economics: Review the rights’ duration, exclusivity and distribution reach, as well as the uncertainty around renewal terms.
- Audience and attendance: Look at trends over multiple seasons; a breakout event or the popularity of one star does not alone demonstrate durable demand.
- Facilities and ownership rights: Establish who controls the venue, what lease or facility commitments apply, and whether training infrastructure requires further spending.
- Price against comparable assets: Compare transaction values with team revenue and cash flow, stating the assumptions and choosing genuinely comparable teams.
The cited Deloitte reports support the growth and investor-interest story, but do not supply a consistent dataset across these measures. Without asset-level financials and comparable deal data, a confident bubble call—or a claim that women’s sports are a safer bet—goes beyond what the figures show.
