Yes, potentially—but you can use Galaxy Buds4 Pro as Bluetooth earbuds without a Samsung phone, while some settings and ecosystem features are limited or unavailable. They’re a more straightforward option for Android users who can use Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable app than for iPhone owners, who cannot use the app. Whether they’re worth buying also depends on the current price and independent assessments of sound, fit, and noise cancellation.
What works without a Samsung phone?
Samsung says the Buds4 Pro can connect for Bluetooth audio regardless of the phone’s operating system. Its compatibility matrix lists standard audio and call streaming for Samsung Galaxy devices, other Android devices, and other Bluetooth devices, including iPhones, PCs, and game consoles. That means a non-Samsung device is not excluded from basic listening and calls.
However, “Bluetooth compatible” does not mean every feature is available on every device. Samsung’s feature compatibility matrix, current as of March 3, 2026, separates Samsung Galaxy, other Android, and other Bluetooth devices. For example, it does not list HD Voice/SWB for the latter two categories, and touch-and-hold customization is unavailable in the other Bluetooth category. The matrix notes that some features enabled through the Android Wear app can remain saved on the earbuds.

| Phone or device | Basic audio and calls | Settings and features | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy | Available | Samsung lists Galaxy settings and device-specific features; availability depends on the device and software. | Best fit if you want Samsung ecosystem integration. |
| Other Android | Available | Galaxy Wearable can provide advanced settings on supported Android phones. Some features remain Samsung-device-specific. | Viable if you’re comfortable with feature differences. |
| iPhone or another Bluetooth device | Available | Galaxy Wearable is not supported on iOS; the compatibility matrix restricts some controls and features for other Bluetooth devices. | Basic Bluetooth use is possible, but app-based setup and customization are a drawback. |
Samsung’s product guidance specifies Android 12.0 or later and at least 1.5 GB of memory for advanced settings through Galaxy Wearable, and says the app is not supported on iOS. Check the feature you care about against Samsung’s device matrix rather than assuming that a feature available on Galaxy phones will work the same way on your phone.

Which features are tied to Samsung devices?
UHQ audio
Samsung advertises UHQ audio up to 24-bit/96 kHz for specified Galaxy S, Z, and Tab devices running One UI 6.1.1 or later. The company says additional devices may be supported in the future. Treat this as a Galaxy-device benefit, not a reason to buy the Buds4 Pro for a non-Samsung phone; confirm that your exact model is on Samsung’s compatible list.
Noise control and settings
Samsung lists ANC, Adaptive ANC 2.0, and Adaptive Noise Control. It says supported Galaxy devices manage modes in Galaxy settings, while non-Samsung Android users can use Galaxy Wearable. The availability of a mode does not establish how well it performs in practice.

Auto Switch, voice control, and gestures
Samsung’s February 25, 2026 launch announcement lists Auto Switch and warns that some features may not be available on non-Samsung devices. Samsung’s user guide says head gestures require a connected device running One UI 8.5 or later, and Bixby voice activation is limited to Bixby-enabled Samsung phones. These are specific ecosystem restrictions, not evidence that basic Bluetooth playback requires a Galaxy phone.
Should you buy them for a non-Samsung phone?
They may make sense if you use Android
If you have a supported Android phone, want wireless earbuds, and are comfortable using Galaxy Wearable for settings, the Buds4 Pro remain an option. Decide based on the particular features you’ll use: app access is available on supported Android, but some Samsung integrations and device-specific audio benefits do not carry over.

- International Model without Domestic Warranty: The Galaxy Buds 4 Pro SM-R640 are an International Version and do not include a local warranty. Optimized for Android, particularly Samsung Galaxy devices, they offer advanced features such as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), 360 Audio, Hi-Fi sound, and real-time AI-based audio enhancements. While fully compatible with iOS devices via Bluetooth, certain features like ANC customization and 360 Audio are exclusive to Galaxy Android devices.
Think twice if you use an iPhone
An iPhone can stream audio and calls over Bluetooth, but Galaxy Wearable is unsupported on iOS. If you expect to configure the earbuds through a companion app or depend on Samsung-specific controls, that makes the purchase less straightforward. Compare them with earbuds that provide the controls you want on iPhone before deciding.
Check price and independent performance evidence
No current retailer price or stock level is established here, and there is no independent comparison or hands-on testing of the Buds4 Pro’s sound, fit, ANC, battery life, or call quality to support a performance-based verdict. Check current retailer listings and independent assessments of the attributes that matter to you before paying a premium for any feature you may not be able to use.

What else should you check before buying?
- Your exact phone model and software: verify compatibility for any feature you consider essential, especially UHQ audio and device integrations.
- App access: confirm that your phone supports Galaxy Wearable if you need advanced settings.
- Durability claims: Samsung lists an IP57 rating for the earbuds; that rating does not apply to the charging case.
- Wireless standards: Samsung lists Bluetooth 6.1 and codecs SSC HiFi, SSC UHQ, AAC, SBC, and LC3, while cautioning that some features may not be available on non-Samsung devices. Codec and Bluetooth specifications alone do not establish sound quality or feature support on your phone.
