Some Razer phones may be SIM-unlocked, but the model name alone does not tell you whether a specific handset can use another carrier’s SIM. Check the lock status of the individual phone, then confirm that its model is accepted by your carrier and supports the service you need.
What “unlocked” means for a Razer phone
A SIM-unlocked phone can accept a SIM from another carrier. That is separate from network compatibility: a phone may be unlocked but lack the right radio bands, carrier approval, or features such as VoLTE for reliable service. Rogers’ BYOD guidance treats unlock status, frequency compatibility, and VoLTE requirements as separate checks: How to verify device compatibility for BYOD Plan.
Razer’s published specifications describe supported radio bands; they do not establish whether a particular used or previously carrier-sold device is locked. The answer depends on the handset itself, its model number, and the carrier where you plan to use it.

How to check whether your specific phone is unlocked
- Find the exact model number. Check the phone’s settings, original packaging, or device label. For a Razer Phone 2, compare it with model RZ35-0259 named in Razer’s network guidance; do not assume a different model has the same compatibility.
- Ask the seller or current carrier about the lock. Request confirmation that the specific handset is SIM-unlocked. If buying used, treat “unlocked” in a listing as a claim about that unit, not a guarantee based on the Razer name.
- Check the IMEI with the intended carrier. Ask whether that exact device can be activated and whether the carrier supports the bands and services you need. Unlock status alone does not establish eligibility or feature support.
- Test with the intended carrier’s SIM if possible. Insert its SIM and check whether the phone registers on the network and provides the expected service. A successful connection is useful evidence for that SIM and service, but does not guarantee compatibility with every plan or feature.
What to do if a Razer Phone 2 shows “NO SIM CARD” on Verizon
Razer’s troubleshooting article for this specific Verizon issue instructs users to set the preferred network type to LTE/3G/2G and restart the phone. Follow the steps in Razer’s Verizon “NO SIM CARD” troubleshooting guidance. This is a targeted troubleshooting suggestion, not a general fix for every SIM, carrier, or lock-status problem.
Check current activation requirements before buying
Carrier support, activation eligibility, and available features can change. Confirm requirements for your country, carrier, and plan before purchasing or switching a Razer phone. Razer’s support page for the Razer Phone 2 says live support for the device is no longer available; its published compatibility information should not be treated as confirmation of present-day activation for every carrier. See Razer Phone 2 support and FAQs.
