Yes. At 2:15 p.m. Hong Kong time on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Hong Kong securities market is scheduled to be open in its afternoon continuous-trading session. October 7 is not listed as a 2026 securities-market holiday. This status assumes no exceptional HKEX closure notice or halt in an individual stock; check HKEX’s trading-hours page and current notices for a live decision.

Hong Kong stock market hours today

Hong Kong is UTC+8. The answer to “open today” therefore depends on the date and time in Hong Kong, not the time zone where you are checking. HKEX schedules ordinary securities trading Monday through Friday, except on securities-market holidays. October 7, 2026, is a Wednesday and is not one of the October holidays listed in HKEX’s 2026 securities holiday circular, so trading is scheduled today.

For a current status check, consult HKEX’s securities trading hours and its notices. A scheduled open does not rule out an exceptional exchange closure or a trading halt affecting a particular security.

Hong Kong stock market holidays in 2026

HKEX’s securities-market holiday circular, dated June 2, 2025, identifies these remaining 2026 holidays:

  • October 1, 2026: National Day.
  • October 19, 2026: the day following Chung Yeung Festival.
  • December 25, 2026: Christmas Day.

The circular also identifies December 24 and December 31 as half-day trading days and non-settlement days. Its other half day, February 16 (the eve of Lunar New Year), has already passed. For the complete dated schedule, use HKEX’s 2026 securities-market holiday circular. HKEX’s October 2026 calendar separately marks October 1 as National Day and the Hong Kong market closed; the circular is the source for the complete holiday list.

Use the exchange’s securities-market calendar rather than assuming that every general public holiday has the same trading status. Half days are also different from full holidays: check the specific date and its session schedule.

What severe weather means for trading

Under HKEX’s severe-weather trading arrangements, in effect since 2024, severe weather does not automatically stop Hong Kong securities and derivatives markets. HKEX says the markets continue according to the predetermined trading calendar, including Stock Connect, derivatives holiday trading, and after-hours trading. It may assess exceptional circumstances with the HKSAR Government and SFC and announce a closure if warranted. See HKEX’s severe-weather trading overview.

Exchange trading and access to a financial provider are separate questions. HKEX encourages remote work and online services; physical public-facing outlets should not provide services on a severe-weather trading day. Check with your broker and bank about their own service availability, as it may differ. HKEX provides further guidance on intermediary services during severe weather.

Stocks and derivatives can have different holiday schedules

Do not infer that ordinary Hong Kong-listed shares are trading because a derivatives product is available. HKEX separates derivatives into “Holiday Trading Exchange Contracts” and “Non-Holiday Trading Exchange Contracts.” Its 2026 derivatives calendar shows that designated holiday-trading contracts can trade on some market holidays while ordinary non-holiday contracts do not; New Year’s Day is an exception in the calendar. Check the specific contract’s schedule separately from the securities-market calendar.
