Sony confirms that DualSense Edge stick modules can be replaced and that either module fits on either side. But the available evidence does not establish that counterfeit modules are “almost indistinguishable” from Sony’s originals—or even document a specific fake module. Treat that claim as unverified, not as a confirmed new PlayStation problem.
What is confirmed about DualSense Edge replacement modules?
Sony says a stick module that malfunctions or stops working can be replaced with a separately sold module. You do not automatically have to replace the entire controller. Sony also says the left and right modules are interchangeable, so a replacement can be fitted on either side. See Sony’s DualSense Edge stick-module replacement instructions and official manuals.
Does evidence show that fake modules are hard to distinguish?
No credible comparison in the available sources establishes that claim. There is no documented side-by-side examination, teardown, test protocol, manufacturer statement, or regulator finding showing an alleged counterfeit to be nearly indistinguishable from a Sony module. Nor is there a verified figure for counterfeit prevalence.

A marketplace listing for KSILVER JS13PRO+ modules indicates that third-party alternatives are offered; it does not establish that the product is falsely sold as Sony-made, visually indistinguishable, or representative of a widespread counterfeit problem. An aftermarket replacement and a counterfeit are not the same thing: the first may be openly sold under another brand, while the second falsely claims to be genuine.

How can you assess a module before buying?
Appearance alone is not enough to establish authenticity. The available material does not provide a Sony authentication checklist for individual replacement modules. Check what the seller actually claims and assess practical purchase details instead:
- Whether the product is explicitly described as a Sony DualSense Edge stick module or as a third-party aftermarket alternative.
- Whether the manufacturer or seller explicitly states compatibility with DualSense Edge.
- Whether the return policy and warranty are clear, and whether you can identify the seller if the item is not as described.
- Whether the seller explains physical fit, connector compatibility, and any calibration or firmware-update support. Do not assume those capabilities match Sony’s module unless they are stated and verified.
Sony’s Official Peripheral & Accessory Licensing Program describes a framework for licensed PlayStation peripherals and says its logo indicates that a product was designed for the relevant PlayStation system and confirmed by licensees to meet SIE standards. What does calibration information tell you?
The DualShock Calibration GUI project says calibration for DualSense Edge modules is experimental; its clone-detection function currently applies only to DualShock 4. It should not be treated as an Edge counterfeit detector. The project reports average circularity of 8.6% across a sample of 30 DualSense Edge modules, but that is a project-specific calibration statistic—not a counterfeit rate, a measure of visual similarity, or a population-wide product figure. - Make sure the player indicator is off and disconnect the USB cable.
- Slide the RELEASE latch to remove the front cover.
- Touch nearby grounded metal to discharge static before handling the module, and do not touch the module or controller connectors.
- Remove and fit the module according to the manual, then make sure the front cover is secure before turning the controller on.
Sony also warns users to keep the module away from young children and take care not to catch hands in levers or gaps. Consult the DualSense Edge manual for the complete procedure and illustrations.
