No. The available evidence does not show that companies are being forced to stop buying Macs because Apple Intelligence is included in current Apple operating systems. Apple documents ways for organizations to restrict several Apple Intelligence features on managed Macs. A small set of IT managers interviewed by AppleInsider said they did not expect the feature to change their Mac purchases—but those interviews do not establish what companies generally do.
Apple Intelligence does not automatically rule out a Mac purchase
Whether to buy Macs and whether to enable AI features are separate decisions. Apple’s management documentation lists controls for restricting multiple Apple Intelligence capabilities on eligible, managed devices. That gives IT administrators options besides accepting every feature or rejecting Macs altogether.
Apple also presents Mac as an enterprise product and describes built-in mobile device management frameworks in its Apple at Work materials. That establishes that Apple markets Macs for business use; it does not tell us what any specific organization will buy.

What Apple’s management controls can restrict
Apple’s Mac device-management restrictions document controls that can prevent use of Writing Tools, Image Playground, and Genmoji, alongside selected Mail, Notes, Safari, and external-intelligence functions. The available controls, minimum operating-system versions, and supervision requirements vary by feature.

Apple says one restriction can prevent external, cloud-based intelligence services from being used with Siri. The services it currently identifies in this context include ChatGPT and Google Lens visual intelligence.
Apple’s newer declarative configuration and its prerequisites
Apple’s Apple Intelligence declarative configuration, published September 17, 2026, covers Genmoji, Image Playground, Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence, and per-app features in Calendar, Mail, Notes, and Safari. Apple describes it as a way to control which Apple Intelligence features are available on a device.

Apple lists macOS 26.4 device and user configurations among the supported versions. The configuration requires supervision; Apple lists Device Enrollment (macOS only) and Automated Device Enrollment as supported enrollment methods. Those requirements matter: an administrator should not assume that a setting is available for every Mac or enrollment arrangement.

Before relying on a particular control, IT should check the Mac’s operating-system version, supervision and enrollment status, and whether its MDM provider supports and exposes the setting. What the reported IT interviews do—and do not—show
In an October 8, 2026 report, AppleInsider said it had spoken off the record with organizations that had policies against generative AI. It described four interviewees: two IT managers at Fortune 500 companies, a military IT manager, and an IT manager at a large Department of Defense contractor. The interviewees did not expect Apple Intelligence to change their Mac-purchasing plans.
That is useful as a set of examples, not a representative survey. The interviewees were anonymous, the sample was small, and the report said the number of firms with anti-AI policies was unclear. The available reporting therefore cannot establish how widespread such policies are, prove that no company will decline a Mac purchase because of its AI policy, or quantify any effect on Mac sales. Apple rarely publishes enterprise-sales figures, so there is no current, representative figure here that would settle the question.

The same report attributes a figure of $25 billion in enterprise sales during the preceding 12 months to Tim Cook in 2015. What an IT team should check before setting a policy
- Identify the exact features to restrict. Apple’s controls cover multiple features, but not every control has the same OS or supervision requirements.
- Check device eligibility. Confirm the Mac’s macOS version, supervision status, and enrollment method against Apple’s documentation.
- Verify MDM support. Ask the provider whether it implements the specific setting and how it applies to the organization’s enrollment setup.
- Use the current management approach. For macOS 26.4, Apple marks the legacy report restriction deprecated and points administrators to declarative management.
