There is no verified list of five classic PSP games that are wholly unplayable today. A store stopping sales or a game losing online features does not, by itself, prevent someone from playing a physical copy or using an offline mode. The key is to distinguish unavailable digital purchases from disabled online features—and both from a game that cannot be started or completed without a service that has shut down.
Are PSP games still playable?
Yes, some PSP games remain playable, but the answer depends on the title, how you access it, your region, and whether you have compatible hardware. Sony’s support notice says, “You’ll still be able to purchase and play PSP content that is available on the PS3 and PS Vita stores.” The qualification matters: it applies to content available through those stores, not every PSP game or every regional catalog. PlayStation Support’s store notice also says the PSP Store closed in 2016 and that new PSP content cannot be purchased through Sony’s web or mobile store.
Sony announced on July 1, 2026, that PS3 and PS Vita storefront closures would occur in stages: some markets during 2026, with remaining markets scheduled for July 2027. That announcement concerns storefront access, not whether PSP discs stop working or whether existing downloads immediately become unplayable. Check the announcement and your region for the applicable timing. PlayStation’s July 1, 2026 announcement
What does “unplayable” mean?
These conditions are different, and only the last one establishes genuine unplayability:
#1 Best Overall
- Go faster than ever on much longer streets, reaching scary speeds
- Get from checkpoint to checkpoint while you outmaneuver aggressive, alone or in multiplayer mode
- New Garage Mode for adding high-end customization to your racing machine
- Add style to your ride, with wheels customized with parts from Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Ducati and more
- No longer sold digitally: A new digital purchase is unavailable through a particular store. This says nothing by itself about discs, previously purchased downloads, or another legitimate route.
- Online features are shut down: Official multiplayer or other network features may no longer work, while offline play can remain available.
- Cannot be started or completed: The game requires an unavailable service and has no usable offline path. This is the evidence needed to call the game genuinely unplayable in the relevant sense.
For example, Ubisoft’s notice for the legacy games it covers says, “Please note that the offline features of the games are unaffected and remain available to you.” That statement applies only to the games listed in the notice, not every PSP title. Ubisoft’s A–M legacy-services notice and Ubisoft’s N–Z legacy-services notice describe the affected services. PlayStation also maintains a title-specific online game-server page; a server listing addresses online support, not automatically whether a game can be played offline.
Which five PSP games are unplayable today?
Current official evidence does not establish five named PSP games that are wholly unplayable. Without title-by-title confirmation of physical releases, regional digital access, offline play, and required servers, naming five would turn a store or service change into an unsupported claim about the whole game.

- Is a legitimate digital purchase or download route available in your region?
- Can the game be started and played offline, or does it require an account, network connection, or server?
- If online play is unavailable, does that affect only multiplayer, or does it block progression or completion?
Availability can change by region and over time, so a historical store listing or a general shutdown notice is not enough to establish a title’s current status.

- Tear it up in more than 30 unique environments.
- 6 distinct terrain types including snow, dirt, mud, ice, water and grass.
- Multiple player capable using PSP wireless multiplayer connectivity
- See from both first and third-person perspectives
- Several race modes such as race, freestyle, career or any of the various mini-games
What is the practical way to play PSP games now?
A used Sony PSP handheld is the most direct physical option for playing compatible PSP games on their original platform. A disc alone is not enough: you need working, compatible hardware, and a game’s edition and condition can matter. Verify the exact game and device against the seller’s listing before buying; neither compatibility for a particular title nor current stock is established here.
