Several major technology providers are moving toward a model that resembles Palantir’s: put engineering teams close to customers and help build AI into operational systems. But the evidence supports a growing pattern, not the claim that “everyone” is copying Palantir. Similar approaches do not, by themselves, prove direct influence.
What Palantir’s playbook actually is
Palantir’s approach combines software with hands-on deployment. In its fiscal 2025 Form 10-K, the company describes Foundry as its foundational data operations platform, AIP as its generative AI platform, and Apollo as its continuous delivery platform. Palantir says it builds software to help organizations integrate data, decisions, and operations at scale. Palantir’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K
The model is more than assigning engineers to customer accounts. Palantir’s AIP overview describes connecting generative AI to operations. Its Ontology documentation describes bringing data, business logic, actions, and security controls together so people and AI agents can work across operational workflows.

Palantir’s descriptions establish how the company presents its platform; they are not independent proof that any particular customer achieved a specific outcome.

What forward-deployed engineering means
Forward-deployed engineering (FDE) puts technical staff close to the customer’s real operating environment. Instead of handing over a general-purpose product and leaving implementation entirely to the customer, an FDE team may work alongside customer staff to adapt, integrate, and deploy software against concrete operational needs.
The label can cover different arrangements. An embedded team might build and refine production systems, while another provider’s group may focus more on implementation support or consulting. The name alone does not tell you how much work the team does, who owns the finished system, or whether the engagement continues after launch.

Which AI and cloud providers show a similar pattern?
Microsoft’s announced Frontier Company
On July 2, 2026, Microsoft CEO of Commercial Business Judson Althoff announced Microsoft Frontier Company. Microsoft said the initiative involved a $2.5 billion investment and plans to embed 6,000 industry and engineering experts with customers to co-design, deploy, and continuously improve AI systems. These are Microsoft’s announced figures and plans, not independently audited totals of deployed teams. Microsoft’s announcement

Althoff said the effort “goes beyond what has been labeled as Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE)” and called it the industry’s largest, most capable, outcome-driven engineering organization. That is Microsoft’s characterization of its own plan, not an independently verified comparison with competitors.

Reported teams at Microsoft, AWS, and OpenAI
IT Pro reports that Microsoft and AWS have internal FDE divisions and that OpenAI launched a standalone deployment consultancy designed to embed engineers in customer organizations. The report describes Palantir as an early practitioner of the approach. Together, these examples support a trend toward closer, more hands-on enterprise AI deployment, but they do not establish that every provider uses this model or that the organizations directly copied Palantir. Claims about other AI companies
A commercial Perspective AI blog calls Anthropic and OpenAI copiers and makes broader claims about Google DeepMind, Databricks, and Cohere. Those are that publisher’s assertions. The official materials and reporting cited here do not independently confirm direct copying or all details of those companies’ organizational structures. Perspective AI’s article

How to compare these deployment models
There is no controlled performance comparison in the available material, so the existence of similar teams is not evidence that one model produces better results. To evaluate a provider, ask how its delivery model works in practice:
- Organizational structure: Is the team an internal unit of the software provider, or a standalone consultancy?
- Customer proximity: Does it work inside the customer’s environment, or provide remote support?
- Scope of work: Does it engineer and deploy production systems, manage change, and continue improving them, or primarily advise?
- Platform architecture: How does the provider represent and connect enterprise data, business logic, actions, and governance?
- Attribution: Has the provider said it learned from Palantir, or does its approach simply resemble a practice associated with Palantir?
These questions help distinguish a staffed deployment service from a broader platform-and-delivery model. They also make clear what a headline about “copying” often blurs: teams can look alike while differing in platform design, engagement scope, and relationship to the customer.

Does “everyone is copying Palantir” hold up?
No. The evidence points to convergence around a useful enterprise AI delivery pattern: vendors are putting technical expertise closer to customers and helping move AI from demonstrations into operational workflows. Palantir is an early, visible example, and Microsoft’s announcement is a particularly large stated commitment.
But there is no reliable population-level figure showing what share of AI companies use Palantir’s specific model, and the sources cited do not establish direct causal influence for the other examples. “Adopting a related pattern” is more accurate than saying every AI company is copying Palantir.
