A waterproof leather hiking shoe is a real kind of footwear, but the available product listings do not verify a specific shoe selling for $36. Treat that figure as an unconfirmed price lead until you can match it to an exact model, seller and market. The distinction matters: waterproofing, leather content and intended use are claims about a particular shoe, not the whole category.
What the $36 claim does—and does not—establish
The product information available confirms that waterproof leather hiking shoes exist, but it does not identify a shoe, seller or market supporting the $36 price. Without an exact listing, there is no basis to verify what the price includes or whether the shoe is actually leather and waterproof.
For comparison, Alfa’s Mesa GTX page identifies a GORE-TEX membrane, nubuck leather and a Vibram sole. Alfa’s separate Mesa Leather listing describes its membrane as waterproof and breathable and displays a price of 279 USD. - Exact model and current price: Make sure the price is attached to the named shoe and applies in your intended market.
- Upper material: Confirm whether the upper is leather, nubuck or a substitute rather than relying on a broad title.

Decathlon Malta’s NH500 listing describes a leather waterproof hiking boot and says it keeps feet dry for three hours in rain. The Malta retailer page displays €44.99 against a stated previous 30-day low of €59.99. These are claims and prices from that particular listing and market; they neither independently test the boot nor verify a US $36 shoe.

Care depends on the shoe’s materials
Waterproof footwear may require care to maintain its properties, but the right treatment depends on its materials. Alfa says proper care is essential to maintaining the properties of its shoes and lists a nubuck care kit on the Mesa GTX page. Check the care instructions for the exact shoe before using a cleaner, conditioner or waterproofing product; a treatment suitable for one material may not be suitable for another.

- Verify that the materials and waterproof construction are stated for that exact model, not just in a search-result headline.
